Hi everyone, I bought a van cleef and aprel necklace in diamond pave a month ago (I haven’t wore it since the day I bought it, it only stay inside the box). And today I got a chance to look at the necklace on the loupe and I saw a lot of minor scratches on the pearl of the necklace. Is this normal? I have a feeling that this is the fake one or something.
I know this sound crazy but I was working hard to get this necklace and Im hoping it to be perfect until I saw the scratches😭
*below is the picture of my necklace, hoping it will show up

It's wild how some people set themselves up for unnecessary stress. Like, buying jewelry and then expecting it to be completely untouched, as if it was never handled by anyone at any point, is just unrealistic. VCA pieces, especially diamond pavé ones, go through multiple hands—from jewelers and quality control to sales associates and multiple potential buyers before final purchase.

And then to take a loupe, specifically looking for imperfections, and spiraling into doubt and misery? That’s just self-inflicted suffering.

Yes exactly! All jewelry will get dings and scratches, it comes with the territory. If you’re worried about scratches now even before you’ve worn it, don’t know how much more stress will come if you look at it after a few wears. Wear it and enjoy your pieces, you’ve worked hard for it!!

Anything is possible in theory, but the reality is extremely slim to get a fake piece from them. Unfortunately gold can scratch pretty easily.
The question is whether you feel happy with your piece or if it will always bother you knowing the scratches are there.
If it will bother you, it's better to return it if you can. I'm not sure how long the return window is.

Thank you for the information! I think I’d still keeping it.

Why would scratches be an indicator of the item being fake? 18k gold is soft, it scratches easily and looking for flaws with a loupe - yes, you are going to find them.

Totally understandable that you want something you worked so hard for to be in the best condition when you purchase it. However, you will probably find flaws with any gold piece of jewelry under a magnifying glass as it gets hairline scratches really easily and it’s a soft material. If you are really worried, you can exchange it, but I would say - as long as there isn’t anything you can see with your eyes without any accessories, it should be okay. I always do my best to keep my jewelry in good condition, but I came to peace it will have wear and tear with time. Enjoy your new necklace, it’s beautiful:)
