What is the longest amount of time that you saved $ for a jewelry purchase? Did you ever get swayed or cut into jewelry savings to buy something else? It is sooo hard for me to not get sidetracked in my savings and waiting for Cartier Love bracelet. As most of you know, I'm waiting for big coupon that may or may not happen. Hopefully I can hold on until June. Must stay out of the stores!!!

I saved for almost a year to get my Cartier Trinity ring. Part of the reason it took so long was because I had that much time before our trip to Vegas and I also had to put aside $$ for other things.

I want a Cartier Love Bangle also. I was so/so on it until I saw it on the delightful SA that helped me in Vegas. I will save for it leisurely so I anticipate it will take 1 1/2-2 years for it.

I haven't used my jewelry savings in the past to buy something else, but I have changed my mind about which piece of jewelry to get!

You know, I was told a long time ago to buy the most I could afford, not the most I could save...

I don't totally disagree with that statement. I just don't always follow that advice, either. :graucho:

With all of my big purchases, I tend to not save, but rather wait for lump sums and windfalls to happen; tax time, birthdays, holidays, etc... I save THAT money. The FOUND money.

To save with my earned money for frivolous things, feels against my grain. YMMV.

So to answer your question, I have never saved long for anything. Just not my style, I guess :graucho:

And for the record, I don't see anything wrong with saving for things one enjoys. Again, it's just not the way I choose to do it :)

I agree with Wired, its not that im against saving its just that I tend to use lump sums of tax money or money that is "throw away cash" that I know will not interfer with everyday expenses. But if I ever choose to start buying higher end designers like VCA and Cartier that may need some planning and saving! When I use lump sums that are extra cash it feels way better to buy something frivilous:tup:

we each have a certain amount of "mad money" per pay i will normally sock some of that away for 4 months or so to get a bag or a new piece of jewellery.

I'm with wired... not very good at commitment saving from day to day! I'm very easily swayed/distracted. I tend to buy larger things with big lump sums like gift money or bonuses which I hold on to fiercely until I see something I just HAVE to have! :) I think saving for a while for something is REALLY great though, mostly because it's SO rewarding to get the prize at the end and it must feel amazing to walk in there and finally purchase it! I just don't really have the patience and have been lucky that in my line of work I tend to get larger, random lump sums from time to time that feel like "found money". Some go to RRSP's but every once in a while I just have to buy myself a treat! :)
