Can I ask you a naive quesetion: how did you know they saved the bag for you? The last time I got mine, my SA just went to the stockroom and before they left they said let's see (if i can see...) and came back within 5 minutes. And I also guessed they knew exactly what was available as they read off their phone what other choices if I wanted GHW. They knew my general interest before our appointment. I was just assuming that they checked the stockroom that day for me :D

Well, usually it's something like this over WhatsApp: SA: I have a surprise for you, when are you available to come into the boutique? Me: Ooh exciting but I'm overseas for the next two weeks. SA: No problem, just come in when you get back.
Then when I do go in and the box is brought out, it sometimes still has a sticker with my name on it. Sometimes the conversation is even more explicit, but that's usually for a non QB

Exactly the same for me.
This has happened in the US and in Paris- the CDI sticker with my name on it.

Thank you both @Bdbunny and @Veritybelle
You are right that when my SA in Paris saved things for me all boxes had a sticker with my name on it. So I guess the QB offered to me was based on stock room that day (but that also means they always have bags in neutral in smaller sizes in the back) and it does not take that long for them to go find it 😆 I won’t have much experience about getting a bag in the future as I have nothing on my bag wishlist, but I was curious how things with bags work. Thanks again!!!

ETA: to stay on topic, I don’t count prespend because I am not buying for a bag and I am a nobody in any Hermes store. I only shop in Paris. I also didn’t expect or ask my SA for a leather appointment.

My SA also told me that sometimes if the bag is assigned to SA#1 and they need to sell it by end of day/week so they’ll offer it to whoever comes in that day and if you happen to be there with an appt you may get lucky. if they don’t then it goes to the next SA. They also can trade bags between SAs. Every SA has a different system. Some are more organic and whimsical which can lead to frustration for the client bc they may be forgotten. Some are very methodical and will go down their list of clients that are due for a bag.

I think this is generally where a lot of the frustrations originate from. There are a lot of inconsistencies, in SA/SM behavior and "policies" which seems very chaotic and unfair at times. As everyone's experiences differ, it seems like things can/do vary from store to store or even from SA to SA...and sometimes even the same client can have different experiences with their SA from week to week or month to month.

If Hermes adopted some type of standardization from country to country, or even between stores within the same country, I think that would definitely ease a lot of people's anxieties and frustrations and uncertainties.

I do, however, appreciate hearing everyone's diverse experiences and knowledge contributions about everything Hermes on this forum. 👍

I will try to add another data point by asking my SA next time but that would be next year 😅

I’ve gotten a bag with my name on it in the US too. My SA said at that time, as soon as he learned it was coming, he slapped my name on it bc he knew I’d love it. He made it sound like he called first dibs, but he must have been up for a bag for one of his clients too?

While I got the impression that my FSH SA held a bag spot for my pre booked appt, once she told me that she happened to see something she thought I’d like a few days prior (and she tentatively marked it for me). But, sometimes, like @HonOlive , she simply lets me know/ reads off what is available.

One offer my SA said the bag had another client's name on it but they persuaded management to 'rip that sticker off'!(black k25 touch lizard). Will never know if that's true, anyway I'm sure the other way around happens as well.

Paris has a lot more bags than other stores, so if you are asking for a relatively common spec (let's say noir togo GHW), it's likely it'll be in stock (particularly at FSH) and not so much need to hold. I had to have a bag replaced once, in a very often seen combination, and it took maybe a day.

great insights. Thanks! Mine was the smallest store of the 3 in Paris but I guess it is still having a good amount of bags - especially when I asked for classic neutral colors.
