I took my sapphire to a gemologist, and in addition to confirming that it is natural and has not been heat treated I was informed that it is "violet-blue" (often listed just as "violet" on sites like the Natural Sapphire Company) Apparently even though it looks blue to me in direct sunlight (and to my camera!) some violet sapphires just have slight color changing tendencies (to blue in daylight) and aren't actually "color-change" stones. How confusing! I feel like maybe I should try to learn more about stones - at least about the ones I have! The report will include appraisal value, but the gemologist mentioned that perhaps I shouldn't let my daughter play with it. Lol. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me identify it :)

Thats great news! sapphires, and a few select other gemstones do have these tendencies to play with different types of light and change colours enough that it is noticable but not enough to be deemed "colour change"
I would love to see more pictures of this ring, its gorgeous!!
