Travel San Diego

This is very good information! Even though I live in San Diego, I don't know about some of the restaurants that are mentioned above, so I will definitely try them out!

BTW, do you guys have any recommendation to spend new year's eve in San Diego?
My sister is visiting me here, so I'd like to spend very very very good time with her, so I'd like to get some advice.
She is not a heavy drinker(just a glass of wine, beer or cocktail) and does not go to crazy clubs, so I am thinking to have a nice dinner with her and have a light drink or tea somewhere after that, but I have no idea where I should go especially on new year's eve. TIA!!

Has anyone been to either or both? Which is better?
I guess I'd like feedback on the Wild Animal park since I know what a Zoo is lol.

We are going in late March. We will have a 3y/o and a 6y/o with us, if that matters.

TIA!

Hey Val,

I did both a couple years back PLUS Seaworld. In all honesty, I was disappointed by the animal park. Basically, you get to ride around on this little train around the park. The animals are all way off in the distance. I mean, it's kind of simulating how they are in their natural environment....but it was kind of boring. With 4 of you, it's going to cost a little bit of money...I'd personally opt for Seaworld instead.

The zoo was fabulous!!! I mean, you can get much closer to the animals...and there were pandas there when we went (not sure if that is a permanent exhibit).

But I gotta go back to praising Seaworld.....so much fun! We bought sardines and were able to feed the dolphins...and pet them! Plus the whale & dolphin show is fun...way funner place for kids than the animal park. Shoot, it was more fun for us and we were all adults.

I haven't been to the Zoo but I went to the animal park. if you want to get really close to the animals you have to pay a lot of money, so my friends and I opted for the tour where you ride around their natural habitat but we couldn't get too close. It was pretty fun...

Thanks for the responses! My best friend and her family are coming out from Arkansas(2 adults, and the 2 kids). Every time they come out, we go on a little road trip, last time it was Seaworld (we all loved it!), so this time we are looking at the Zoo or the Wild Animal Park.

I was kind of scared that the Animal Park would be kind of boring (mainly for the kids). I think we are leaning more towards the Zoo. My SO and I will be buying the Season Pass that is good for both the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park, so we can always go back and do the Wild Animal Park by ourselves since it sounds like its more of an adult thing.

Thanks again!

I totally agree! I love love LOVE Seaworld! I prefer Seaworld over the animal park, zoo, even Disney.

I went to the Wild Animal park and it was fun, but it wasn't great. I prefer zoos. I probably wouldn't go again.

Hi all!

I'm trying to decide whether to go to San Diego or San Francisco March 12-16th.

I've been to both places (San Fran more times - love it!), and so know I'd be happy with either.

What will tip the scales for me is what's happening in each city during that period....any ideas? Special events?

Thanks in advance!

It depends what you're looking to do and what you prefer weather-wise, because the 2 cities have very different weather.

I would spend time Googling events. Here are a few sites to get you started:

San Francisco in March:
The Guardian (free newspaper) is always a great resource for events in/around the City: http://www.sfbg.com/ more here: http://sanfrancisco.about.com/od/monthlyeventcalendars/tp/eventsinsanfrancisco.htm and http://san.francisco.eventguide.com/months/09mar.htm and

San Diego in March: The San Diego Weekly (free newspaper) has good listings of goings-on: http://www.sandiegoreader.com/home/ and more here: http://eventful.com/sandiego/events/march

Thanks redney, you rock!

I usually check out sfstation.com for goings-on, but I've never checked out those other sites so that's a big help. The San Diego ones will be very helpful also since I haven't been able to get any traction on finding out what's on Mid-March.

I'm planning to go to San Diego next weekend and visit the flower fields in Carlsbad. Have anyone gone there before? How was it? Any other places you would recommend to visit? We'll fly early morning on Saturday and will be back on Monday morning, so we pretty much have Sat and Sun.

Oh, and please do advice about restaurants to try

Yup, I went there a couple of years ago but not since...I've gone by it quite a bit, it's very pretty this time of year, great opportunities for pictures.
Since it's nearby, you may want to check out the Carlsbad Premium Outlets (http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=66)...there are some decent outlet stores there.
As for restaurants hmm...if you want to venture to the downtown/Hillcrest area, there's a place called Extraordinary Desserts (http://extraordinarydesserts.com/) that I've heard is really good.

I've been there and it's beautiful! Amazing how they can grow so many flowers. If you enjoy kayaking I would recommend renting a kayak at La Jolla. You'll see the state fish, sharks, and sea lions. I think for 2 people it was $40 for an hour or two and $60 for 4 hours. I recommend 2 hours because as adventurous as I consider myself, I was definitely ready to head back after an hour and a half. If prone to sea sickness, I would consider taking medication prior. If you like American Sushi in trendy settings I would recommend Harney Sushi in Old Town San Diego!
