Sac cabas de France in toile/leather -- anyone seen

Hi All, I am thinking about getting a new work bag and would like something elegant but not the same bag you'd see everywhere. This Celine bag has caught my eye and I'm wondering if anyone has seen it IRL. It's old fashioned, but IMO classic rather than dated. Unfortunately, the Celine photos don't show the shoulder strap that comes with it, I need to see this in the store to make sure it's not too thin for a work bag. Thanks!!

No, I haven't and I'm still interested! I have a 10-day trip in Paris planned for November that I hope isn't cancelled for Covid reasons. If we still go, I plan to visit Celine and check out the bag in person if it's still available.

Here’s a photo of the Cabas de France in grey leather. The strap seems to be quite thin for a work bag IMO, especially if you need to carry a laptop.
I like the look of this bag too, but I’m worried about the strap situation.

I so agree with you! I don't understand why these "workhorse" bags come with such thin straps. They're just not practical or comfortable for someone who wants to use it for business, including carrying a laptop. Yet there are many small bags on the market with broad heavy straps better suited for these bags. When I see a large work bag with a thin strap and a small to medium sized bag with a heavy, wide strap, I can't help thinking: switched at birth??

Ha ha ha! Quite possibly, yes.
Céline have those wide straps for sale (similar to Seau Sangle straps) and they look great and feel good, but they add significantly to the price so it may not be an option.

I checked out the wide straps, thanks for the suggestion, but they are canvas, which for me is a .... no. But I'm sure I can find one from another brand that would work. You are right, though, about the Celine strap prices. $400 for a canvas strap? I don't think so.

I did end up trying this bag but only in the mini and teen sizes. It was lovely but I can’t comment on the strap sizes.

I have heard of Etsy sellers who will customize a strap for you in the length, hardware, and material of your choice. Seems popular for LV and Hermes bags especially with color matching. Maybe an option to consider?
