Wondering what everyone's thoughts are when their SA is getting super popular with tons of followers. I've noticed items that she posts gets sold within minutes sometimes and it makes me wonder if I should look for a new SA. Don't get me wrong, I know this is just part of the business, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a SA that isn't as popular so that she may actually have stuff available or have the time to look for me.

I don’t mean to hijack but can you explain how it all works? Why the need for SAs to sell on IG, etc? I get that different stores may receive different stock (due to their ability to sell?) but why do different SAs have access to different stock? What is their commission culture like?

I’m surprised by a lot of these posts. Three times I’ve walked into a boutique and made purchases and I never remember even the SAs name. Only this fourth time I even had to check stock before I went in but that was personal preference (pandemic, didn’t want to make the trek if they didn’t have close to what I want). But this fourth time was in the US. Is this country specific?

I guess it depends on how loyal you are to her. The relationship goes both ways. My SA is able to search in her system for an item that is sold out. She really goes above and beyond to help me, and I know she has a lot of clients. Would your SA do that for you? If she doesn’t then it’s probably best to move on. If she helps you get what you want then I would say stick with her.

I'm actually not too sure myself, but like you, I usually walk into the boutique and make my purchases with random SAs. I've been following an SA lately in order because of the pandemic.

Thanks for your input! To be honest, I don't think I need to stay loyal if I just want to get my item lol! I just reached out to another SA and she was WAY more helpful than the other one. Time to move on!

I think regardless of the brand you have to realize that SAs don't care about us lol this isn't a friendship, this is a business transaction: the more we buy, the better they look. Even if you think you're buying a lot from one SA, she might have 16 other customers who buy even more than you do. Follow the brand and only stay loyal to your SA if they give you a reason to. That being said, some SAs are randomly amazing even if it's your first time buying from them.

I have noticed this too, definitely as an effect of the pandemic! I work with multiple SA's since there really is no one stop shop for everything, and the items I shop for are quite specific. Also, there is a difference in merchandise available between Dallas (my home) and the bigger markets. Rookie SA's are great if they are hungry for a sale- and yes, they can commit time to your search. That being said, retail is a competitive business and the rookie's may not have the inter-brand/retailer network to get really special merchandise transferred to their store for the sale.

As shopping is a large part of my business, I treat my successful SA's well- not like some clients, I'm sure- but I will bring them a coffee or get them small gift cards if they work particularly hard on a search. Keep in mind, many stores have gifting policies (where SA can not receive a gift of over $50-75 in value) but I think a lot is done under the table. I do what I can to show my appreciation!

Great topic!
