Hi all! I am debating putting in an order for either a RG or YG hammered 10-motif. I’m curious how VCA’s gold colors hold up over time, particularly in the hammered collection.

The reason I ask is because I ADORE RG when it’s freshly purchased. The pink tone is perfect to me. But I’ve seen it patina to more of a dark copper, which is not the kind of shade that looks good on me. Meanwhile, YG is always a safe bet as that’s primarily what I wear, but for some reason YG doesn’t makes my heart sing in hammered quite like the RG does.

If anyone has RG/YG mod shots of pieces you’ve owned for a while, I’d love to see how the metal looks now!

For reference I am blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair skin, so I think I can pull off either metal but who knows.

My old and second hand ring which is officially a RG VA paved ring is really to me looking YG. And my sweet Alhambra sautoir / bracelet don’t look as rose gold as at the beginning. I wear these pieces so much so I can tell they don’t stay in a drawer. But the RG will come more to YG looking after a few years. And the beautiful rose gold shine disappears after 10 months. But that’s perfectly normal for me and all gold will develop a patina. I still would tell you buy RG. It will go to YG direction with time but you still will enjoy that RG a while like this. And as you also wear YG no worries 😌

Personally, i only buy WG , YG or silver.. while i admire RG, i find the shade of RG can vary a lot between brands and is harder to match up compared to YG. Thats just me though

I’ve got the Sweet RG Alhambra bracelet which I’ve had since end 2021. I think it’s definitely not as pink but I don’t think it’s darkened, in fact, it’s probably lightened to be closer to YG.

My sweet rose gold necklace became more orange/yellow with daily wear. The necklace in the picture was worn daily for 3 years and the bracelet was recently purchased at the time.

Get the rose gold! You already said you love it. Here’s the thing—- over time the color may change, I think because the copper content is higher in RG and it will eventually oxidize. I took my RG sweet Alhambra to the boutique for cleaning after wearing it for two years straight and it looked good as new! So it’s really just a matter of cleaning to recover the color.
