Hello Ladies. I have not posted on the forum in a few years, but I have a burning question I hope you experts can answer. Have done several searches, but can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for.

I recently purchased a RC RH city. It was the last one so I couldn't be as picky as I would like, since I have a thing about buying Balenciaga at the store itself, not NM or Barneys ect...
I probably should have passed it up, but didn't.

It is very dry! I have done a search as I said, and read the whole 30 odd pages on leather honey, so I'm considering using it. I will try it first on my blueberry twiggy 06.

My concern is how do red bags specifically take to the leather honey? Any issues? If it darkened SLIGHTLY in a uniform way I wouldn't mind. I think a richer red would be nice. I really need this to be moister though.

I bought the Bal cream, but didn't pull the trigger on that after reading some reviews here.

Also, I am concerned about darkening handles? Is miracle shield still the way to go? I can't find it currently on the website though.:smile1: thanks in advance!

Sometimes on the handles I use "for handles only" by LMB...lovinmybags.

Leather Honey will darken your bag in patches when you first apply it but it will dry in and the color will become uniform once again. It's a little alarming the first time you see it. I've had bags dry slightly darker and others end up the same color. I do think that the Leather Honey is a nice moisturizer for a dry Bal.

Does leather honey change the texture/feel of the leather?

I applied leather honey on my Coquelicot velo when I first bought it. It darkened the leather to almost black! I was sure my bag was ruined! A few hours and tears later, the black started lightening up and in 24 hrs the color was back, although still had some darkening here n there. After a month, the color is back to being consistent. Leather honey turns the bags super supple but a lil dark. But just warning you, it is super alarming at first! Proceed with caution!
Good luck!

I've used LH on all my bals and it works beautifully! I HIGHLY recommend it! It does darken the color of the bag initially, but by the time the LH dries and soaks in (usually within a few hours), it's back to the original color.

The most important thing is to use it SPARINGLY... a little goes a long way. Cannot stress that enough. Good luck and let us know how it turns out! :D

It doesn't change the texture IMO but it does make the bag 'feel" a lot more soft and less dry.

Exactly!

For many years, I was a "purist" .. would never even think to moisturize my Balenciaga bags. Well, that was 'in the day' (the earlier bags), and since then .. have come across a few bags (mostly Agneau) which need a conditioning. The only product I would EVER consider is Leather Honey!

As others have said though .. USE IT SPARINGLY!!! If you slather it on, you will likely freak out and it could (potentially) darken the bag a bit .. although it will never get super dark. The stuff really works!

As far as handles, I don't treat them .. so I can't speak to that.

Thanks so much for all the responses! I am so grateful. I was at NM at the topanga mall here in Los Angeles feeling up all the bags today. I'm sure the sales associate thought I was very weird. :roflmfao::roflmfao::roflmfao:

I am convinced this was a display bag at some point. It is so dry and papery. That new marbled leather one was really nice and soft though...I stroked that one so much the lady thought I was going to buy it! Almost did...but I bought two last week...must control myself.

I am going to take the plunge. I was going to use my hands, then I though maybe a paint brush...now I'm thinking of latex gloves to really get it in there. I can't decide!

1) Do you do all of the trim too along the zipper...or just the bag?

Thanks also for the darkening warning, I will try to prepare myself because if I ruin this bag I am going to be absolutely SICK!

2) Should I hang to dry or lie it flat on a towel or something? Is lint a concern as it drys too?

I use artist brushes to apply LH... as pictured HERE. I like it because you can get a nice, even, thin coat using the brushes and get into every little crevice. I know other ladies have used make up sponges with great results too.
If you want to use your hands to massage the LH into the leather, go with clean bare hands (no gloves). To answer your other questions... yes, I do apply it to all the trim and I hang it to dry overnight. Just make sure there isn't a heater vent right under it. HTH!

So I took the plunge! I did my 06 twiggy first. The bag was sent to me by Joseph, a really nice SA from NY store who I remember fondly. I remember when it arrived think it was dry, but it was my first so I figured it was going to get better with use.

It stayed dry, and has faded a bit. I tried to do a thin coat first. Then, I moved on to the new RC. By the time I finished the RC, the twiggy looked like it was already absorbed. So, I went ahead a did another coat. Now it looks shiny and dark so I assume it will sink I overnight. It must have been so thirsty!

The RC did not turn very dark at all while it was applying, the veins did become very pronounced though...so we will see tomorrow.
