I finally, finally pulled the trigger on a vintage Rolex that I have been eyeballing for literally months. Got some solid advice from a few impartial experts (and some lovely TPFers) and did the whole offer-counteroffer thing this afternoon. I paid more than the experts said it was worth, by about $700, but hell, it's a beauty, I'm in love with it and $700 extra was an amount I was willing to pay over the assumed market worth to get my hands on it.
It is believed to be from the 40's, 14k, and has a (possibly refinished) dial in pink gold (something I took into account when making an offer). Apparently it is uncommon but not officially rare. It's also a men's watch with a large face - for whatever reason, I prefer men's watches for this reason (the big faces) and I also like simple, non-sporty designs. I may or may not keep the croc leather strap, we will see.
Does anyone else here own or covet a vintage Rolex? Or any other vintage watch? Am I alone in my love? I would love to see photos if anyone has any.
Without further adieu, my gorgeous new (to me anyway) baby:
