Rolex: Upgrading the dial?

Hi ladies,

My mom donated her old Rolex to my cause (yay!). It has a white face. It's a ladies size.

Have any of you ever sent your watch to Rolex for a new dial? I would really like a pink mother of pearl with arabic numbers.

Any idea how long this would take, and how much it would cost? Not sure if it would be worth it, financially, instead of just going out and buying another watch.

Please let me know what you think.

I've had mine re-faced twice. When I bought it it had a black face and I wanted champagne! I sent it back and had it changed for $300 and six weeks wait. 10 years later it needed servicing. When I talked to the rep at Rolex I mentioned I had a hard time reading it with my "older" eyes. She recommended a lighter dial. It cost $800 for dial and service and took 8 weeks. f you send them our watch they will call you with the price quote and time frame and let you decide. I've seen the pink face and it's pretty!

I would say that it would be better to see if you can get the face changed.

As the watch is an old one it would be a shame to go out and buy a new one when you can just change the face. It will definitely be cheaper and mean more to you because it was your mums.

bagsaremylife! - I was told by my SA that you can only upgrade to a diamond dial but not mother of pearl dial. I am not sure how true this is.
It is definitely worth it to upgrade the dial rather than to get a new one.

I have never sent mine to change the dial. But my mom has changed hers several times. So I think it can be done. If u know a certified Rolex specialist, they can just change it in front of u. It only takes 15 minutes.

Thanks ladies! One thing I am confused about is whether it needs to be sent to a central Rolex facility and take like 6-8 wks, or whether it's something that can be done on-site in an authorized Rolex dealer's jewelry shop. I do know that I want it done the 'official' way, and do not want to risk lowering the value of the watch.

How do you go about sending the watch to rolex? Do you have to go through your local jewelry store? What's the best way to get a sense of the pricing?

I don't know about other authorized Rolex dealers, but mine and even Ben Bridge accept the watch and mail it to Rolex service center for servicing. You may call the nearest Rolex service center for proper procedures.

So when your watch is serviced at an authorized Rolex dealer (ie your local nice jewelry store that sells rolexes), are they always sending it to the big Rolex service center? Someone please clarify, I am so confused about this point...

I called Rolex direct in NYC. They were very helpful and explained everything thoroughly. I think you can go through an authorized dealer but I think there's a charge to send it to Rplex and even if they can change it there I doubt many of them carry the faces in stock so you'll probably have to wait while it's ordered.
