I just came across a friend's Rolex and to my surprise the day marker is red and so is the arm. It looks to me to be a datejust but now I am confused since I have never seen something like this....Any thoughts anyone?

Hi,
You are talking about the DateJust Turn-o-graph. It has a red sweep arm (seconds) and red date numbers. Other DateJusts, depending on dial, can have the "roulette wheel" style date display, with odd numbers in red and even in black.

Thanks to you, I was able to find the exact picture of what it looks like.

Yes, it almost looks like Yachtmaster, but with Datejust face. Are these common or perhaps a ltd edition. This is honestly the 1st and only time I've seen the model.

They are common and not limited edition. They are really a datejust with a rotating bezel. Some love them and some hate them. They all came with red seconds hand and date wheel.

The Rolex website shows the various models. The WG dials show red hands on the subdials as well as a red sweep hand. Note also that the new WG Daytona is on a strap, not a bracelet.

In general for details on Rolex models, http://www.rolexforums.com is very helpful. So much to learn.:smile1:

Do you by any chance also know the difference b/n ss and wg Daytona? I was told that wg is distinguished from ss by red sweep arms.....

I don't think the SS Daytona comes with red seconds hand. You need to go with a white gold with a black or white dial. If you can find a good watchmaker and purchase the dial and hands, you can have them switched. Just keep the original in case you want to sell or have it serviced.
