I just noticed that my e-ring setting and band are in 14k- should I be concerned about the wearability? I thought they were 18 k ( I just noticed the marks).
I was wanting a ring in platinum- maybe a right hand ring- ??? Is it worth it? Thanks!

Why are you worried about the wearability of 14K? 18K is softer. The majority of jewelry out there is 14K. As for platinum, the patina on it id different - greyer, less "shiny" -
only you know which you prefer. It is not like people are going around asking you if it is 14K, 18K or platinum. KWIM? It;s what YOU like!!!

Hello, seahorse.... I have sev plat mounts and like them very much. The only negative, to me, is that they are hard to polish with a jewelers cloth inbetween store polishings.

If you like durability, and don't mind scratches inbetween the polishings, I feel you would enjoy a ring in platinum, remembering, tho, that platinum is heavier than gold.

White 18K is a nice choice too, for the shanks of rings although, personally, I prefer plat for the prongs. Others like white 18K for prongs and shank.

18K yellow is also beautiful.....my latest remount was with 18K yellow shank and plat prongs, my favorite combo in a ring.

14k will serve you well; it is beautiful and harder than 18k.
I think platinum is very pretty and worth the price if you like white metals. Sometimes white gold is a little grey and is plated with rhodium. When the rhodium erodes, you are left with a greyer metal.
My jeweler friend always suggests a gold head with platinum shank if you are looking at white metals. She says that platinum will not break, but is so much more pliable than gold that the prongs could eventually just move away from the stones.

^^ Yes, 14k is preferred over 18k. Also, keep in mind that platinum prices went WAY down during the past six months and now is valued just a little bit more than gold.

I have rings in all the medals, and they all have their pros and cons.

Personally, I don't care much for the gray color nor the patina of plantinum and will therefore never get another ring in platinum.

My e-ring is 18k and I love it! 14k is definitely harder, but it yellowed on me. My 18k hasn't done that and I've been wearing it everyday for 4 yrs.

When I bought myself and my girlfriend platinum wedding bands, we were very pleased with them. Aside from platinum being rare, pure and luxurious, its hypoallergenic. Although it is a bit more than white gold, it is worth the money. Platinum does not tarnish and it is extremely durable. Plus, it holds gems more securely than any other metal.

Hope this was useless,
Rich
