I am in the process of sizing up my rings due to my knuckles being so much bigger and getting calluses from shoving my rings over them. My ering should be ready today, I went TOO big with that and am having that altered. But my wedding band is a half-eternity. It's got a serial number inside of it, and I am hesitant to mess with the engraving to much. I emailed the company I bought it from in NYC and got pricing for two options and both were, IMO, ridiculously high. ($275 without sizing balls, $375 with sizing balls). My ering cost about $125 with sizing beads. All rings are platinum and will be laser welded and sized that way.

Right now I am really considering having the local person do my w-ring as well, instead of shipping it off to NYC to it's maker for resizing up a hair. The pro to doing that is that they made it, they size it, they re-engrave the inside. The negative is obviously shipping, waiting 2+ weeks, and paying out the nose for it.

What would you do?

I voted local. :smile1: I have a jeweler I trust with all my heart and he has done an absolutely fantastic job on everything I've ever gave him. I've resized my wedding set and a ring from my mother with him.

The one time I sent a ring back to the place I bought it, I was very unhappy with the results -- after waiting almost a month for it. Had to send it back again and waited another month! The 2nd return to me was much better but it wasn't *perfect* and I just lived with it.

So I voted local because of my own experiences!

Size it locally. The engraving is not worth your time or money.
It's SP (raphael). Does that matter at all to your answer? I guess I should have mentioned that....I am majorly hestitant on them doing it because of the length of time it will take them and they haven't been consistent (or even close lately) on their time estimations.

I am leaning that way. I took it off to look at where the engraving is, and I don't think my engravings (PLAT and makers mark) on my ering setting were mangled at all on the other ring...

I have to say that part of my massive hesitation with having the original maker do it, beyond shipping it, is that it took a LONG LONG LONG time to have the damaged stones replaced (they were cracked, my fault entirely) and it took me sending it two times because the first time I sent it they didn't even bother to fix it. It could be felt, and seen clearly, but they denied the existence. I had a big issue with that, not to mention the ridiculous turnaround time. That said, as long as the markings stay somewhat intact I am fine with local.

Ill be picking my ering up today, so maybe Ill talk to them about this one.

I actually remembered that from your reveal post. It does not change my answer--I really don't think it matters.

Great memory! I am going to ask the local people tonight.

I had Jim Summa change the head initially but he referred me elsewhere for the resizing since he doesn't laser weld yet.

Well I get to throw a curve in this. I need to find another local guy evidently. The one that I was going to use really botched my setting on my ering. It's like the put it in a vice grip and squoze hard. It's misshapen. And they didn't plan on fixing it, they acted like I was supposed to be ok with it! So I am making them fix it. THen I am never going back!
