Right carat size for 1895 necklace?

Dear Cartier lovers, I have very hard time to decide which carat size should I choose for the 1895 necklace 😅

Unfortunately the stock in Europe now is very low and it’s not even one necklace to see in my shop in the similar size. So I need to decide without seeing it with the head and not with the heart ….

I wear usually the earrings 1895 which are 0,54 E VVs2/VS1 one and would like to add a necklace to pair with. I’m afraid that the best value choice- 0.87 carat should be 1) dangerous and uncomfortable to wear for 24H wear 2) less sparkling as smaller D color stone

This necklace is not just a next piece of jewelry…. It will be a remember gift for my daughter (unfortunately I’m fighting with a serious illness).

I’m so sorry. I wish you strength and good fortune as you progress in the fight for your health. While I am certain any one of these would be cherished as a gift of remembrance by your daughter, i agree that the the relative best value necklace would be the top choice. The stones chosen by Cartier are beautiful in color and eye clean, and the size perfect for one she can wear as a forever piece. I personally prefer a necklace to be larger than earrings, and I am assuming that she will wear these as a coordinating set. if I might make a suggestion that whichever stone you choose, choose one that brings you the most joy to wear. I think the gift will be especially meaningful and comforting if your daughter feels it is the one that you love personally and would have picked for yourself. Hugs

I’m very sorry to hear about your illness. I agree with @880 and @caruava . Your daughter will love any piece you pick out because it will be from you. I also don’t think you need to worry about the F color not being as sparkly as the D. If you put the F next to the D, you will not even be able to see the difference with the naked eye. They will both sparkle (if the cut is similar, which I assume Cartier selects stones with an excellent cut), and probably the larger stone will sparkle more. I also think the .87ct size will be comfortable to wear all day. I frequently wear pendants that are larger in surface area 24H through shower, sleep, exercise with no problem. I actually think this would be a nice size she can wear every day without being too much.

Oh Mari Roma, Your post tugs at my heartstrings and I am in tears. No matter what you choose, that fact that you put loving thought into this gift is all that matters. My sisters and I wear matching rings that our baby sister picked for us before she passed from cancer. That ring is the most valuable piece of jewelry I own.

I am so sorry to hear you are not well! I think that this is a wonderful gift and echo the sentiments of others on here. I'd say that what you select is nowhere near as important as the meaning here. With that said, I'd probably go for the nicest one available that doesn't present any financial strain. The last thing one wants is any other source of stress when ill.

Thank you for a very nice idea, I already did indeed ☺️ We were together in the shop and she has choose this necklace (in smaller 0.41 size) thinking about her confession (cresima) present 💝 Now I’d like to buy it bigger to leave something very nice to her, which will last many years… I need only to choose the central stone from available pieces to order 😊

do you think that fluorescence is the NO point to buy?

after speaking with SA today and checking GIÀ certificate I’m choosing from this stones, OMG it’s difficult!!!!! Do you avoid to buy the stone with fluorescence (faint) or it doesn’t matter?
I think my choice is 0.87 vs 0.74 🙈

- 0.80 F IF 15.400€ fluorescence
- 0.74 E VS1 11.900€
- 0.71 D VVS2 13.500€

With fluorescence, if you can look at it yourself to judge that would be best. Fluorescence when strong, makes the diamond glow in natural light, even making the diamond seem hazy. If it is faint and worn on the neck I do not think faint will be an issue.

I also look at face up area vs carat weight too. To ensure the diamond isn't cut too deeply. Cut/sparkle is most important to me.

That said, being Cartier, I'm sure the stones they choose are great. For the neck, and with the options presented, I would choose the 0.80 F IF 15.400€ fluorescence or 0.87 F VS2 13.000€ fluorescence. If there is not much difference between them when you view them, I would go for the 0.87 F VS2 13.000€ fluorescence to save/use the funds for other things.

Adding on to my comments regarding fluorescence... Fluorescence for me personally, is a deal breaker for a ring. Faint elsewhere like for a pendant is not a problem, especially if well cut and larger in carat weight.

And reiterating, I know whatever you choose, she will love. It could have carbon inclusions and she would cherish it the same. It's a terrible situation to be thrust upon you, and we all wish you didn't have to do this, but you're so very thoughtful to do so for her.

Sending love and strength -don’t waste “power” which you need to fight the illness to keep going for as long as possible losing sleep over faint fluorescence…you will make the right choice, then don’t lose more sleep over it..

Regarding the diamond, the advice above re the F IF , or the 0.87 ct with Faint fluorescence is good advice, as long as the stone doesn’t face up blue , you will know when you see the stones..
