Rhyders in suede - how well do they wear?

I got this bag during the last FOS and for once, it was in perfect condition even though she wasn't wrapped very well. She was crumpled and folded when I got her but I've filled her up and I love how she looks overall...but I'm worried about how careful I have to be against wear and tear.

I've read that this bag had may be prone to shedding and even as I was taking her out of the Coach plastic bag she came in, the adhesive tape touched against the side and when I pulled it off, some of the hair came off with it. It wasn't enough to be noticeable but now I'm worried how vulnerable that suede is. She's also quite slouchy when not stuffed to the gills like below and this could cause a lot of creasing which I haven't really thought about until now. I like the slouchiness of Rhyders but big permanent crease lines I'm not sure about.

Would love input from other owners of current Coach suede? I plan to spray her against the weather should I decide to keep her but I am fairly hard on my bags.

I don't have this bag but I've been so tempted by it! I have many suede bags as I love suede. They all have held up very well. Suede isn't as forgiving as leather to staining. With a lot of wear, suede can wear down to a shiny surface, but that takes a really long time. I have a suede Coach from the 70s that is still in good condition.

If you spray her, you should be fine.

That Rhyder is gorgeous, I'd just spray the hell out of her and use her! I have the darker leather one that changes with the light.......love this bag! I love suede too, so don't be afraid to treat her and use her.

If treated properly suede can last many, many years. You'll probably get tired of the style before you see any real wear on her! Common sense reminder of course if it's raining buckets that day you may want to carry a different bag......:graucho:

Beautiful bag! Just spray it and go! Every part that will have excessive wear is protected with leather-handles, corners, along the zipper and shoulder strap. Well made.

Thanks. I've been wanting this bag since the SAS but chose the gunmetal Rhyder at the time. I knew the FOS price wasn't a huge deal but I couldn't chance losing it so I bit the bullet. She's so soft to touch I keep petting her. Is there a brand of spray you recommend?

Thanks. Which one do you have? It's funny you should mention "raining buckets" because it was just such a day that she arrived. I had to take her out of her box and held onto her tight under the umbrella while running from my parking space to apartment with only the thin plastic for protection. I love the Rhyder too, to me they seem a bit different from your typical satchel because of the toggles and Americana style.

Thanks and yes I'm glad this bag wasn't all suede or I wouldn't have gotten her. And I hope Coach continues to make satchels and totes with feet.

And here she is with her big sister in Gunmetal. I love them both but got the suede one because the 33 is kind of heavy for me.

My Rhyder is the QB/Bronze MTLC LTH RHYD 32. Don't know if that helps but it's a dark bag with undertones of reddish/black tones?

Love it.

Oh yes, I've seen pictures but never IRL so never knew how pretty it was until the reveals on tPF and I'm sure even that's not showing everything. I think Coach's use of "Bronze" in the name confused a lot of people who never saw it in the stores - I'd thought it was more yellow like the metal.

I don't have any useful input but wanted to say your new Rhyder is gorgeous!
