HI~
There should be a care card in the pocket of the bag... Coach of course would say use either nothing or Coach moisturizer... Since finding the Apple products... I pretty much condition everything leather...

Hope this helps.. (What did you bag did you get?)

I got the Borough bag in Camel retro glove leather. Unfortunately first day out I got a small spot on it (oil based, I think) .
Now I want to protect it with something like Applegarde Rain & Stain or Wilson's protectant. But it seemed to spot so easily I'm wondering if the spray would possibly create spots or darken the bag unevenly.

The SA at the store used a Coach product (moisturizer of cleanser) to blend some light scratches so I know that won't hurt it but it also won't protect it.

thanks

If it were mine, I would use Blackrocks or Obenaufs. Both would protect it. Both are wax-based so they will resist water spotting and staining. Blackrocks might darken it temporarily but is better at hiding scratches. Obenaufs is probably a heavier duty waterproofer.

I think the leather should be similar to the vintage glove tanned leather of 80s Coach and both products work wonderfully on that leather.

Congrats on the new Borough!!! If you have a spot from oil... I would try dabbing it with a damp cloth and some Ivory dish soap... let it dry and then try the Apple moisturizer... it may darken a little but let it dry.. I have used the Apple Spray on a bag.. (maybe a little too heavily...) I let it dry for a couple of days and had no issues with the color...

Good Luck!!!

we used the Apple conditioner and a lot of elbow grease with a microfiber towel to get the spot mostly off.
Sprayed with Apple garde and that went well....no spotting or color change

I'll keep those products in mind for future
For now Apple moisturizer and Applegarde protectant seem to have done the job

I'm a bit obsessed with Obenauf's these days. I put it on my 3 year old Vechetta Caroline and now think it's the most wonderful product. Nothing is getting through that stuff. Wish I found it when Caroline was new.

you and Whateve have got me thinking about that Obenauf's now
I looked for it online last night and found Amazon had it but I couldn't open Amazon
From what I could see they make different products - one for boots?

Yes they do. The one I got is called "heavy duty LP" and comes in a black jar. It says it was originally developed for firefighters and it is the only industrial strength leather protection.

one amazon review said it darkens leather? My concern with the camel borough bag would be if it darkened, but more importantly if it darkened unevenly

I'm a fan of Apple care products but I had been using my wonderful Camel Napanil Open Borough bag for a few months and happened to go out to dinner before the holidays at a restaurant that was small and intimate. Lacking for space, mu hubby put the bag next to him on the seat. The next morning I looked at it and from what I can tell is he may have spilled some of his red beet salad juice down the side of it. Ugh! I proceeded to use the cleaner and was most surprised. I have always loved the moisturizer but when it came to cleaners I went somewhere else. Well over the course of a few days, the spills became non existent on the leather. I followed up with the moisturizer which I think this leather does love and I've been good to go! Good luck!

I read all those amazon reviews too. Some people say it darkens the leather and some people say it does not.

I used it on a patinaed vechetta bag and it did not change the color. But it did take a couple days to dry.

I found out about this product from this thread which I thought was excellent and has lots of photos on it of the products being applied.

This should help explain everything.

I just used the same products in the same order on my 3 year old Vachetta bag and could not be happier with the results. Nothing is getting through that treatment.

thanks

I've never found that it darkens. Blackrocks does but even that is just temporary. I think that sometimes when leather is very dry, once the moisture is restored with a conditioner, the leather returns to its natural color. Some people might mistake that for darkening.
