Hey girls,
I just had a question... I searched threads, but didn't see any similiar topic to what I need help with... I'm hoping you girls that are knowledgeable with all this can!

So I just got engaged last week, but my ring is a little loose. I've lost a lot a weight, so my fingers seemed to shrink down in size (and I told my fiance even what size I am, so I feel bad because I didn't think my fingers would ever shrink! LOL)... I need to get it a 1/2 size smaller. Also, I need to get it appraised too. Is there anywhere that you girls know of in particular where I can get my ring resized the same day? Or will I have to ship it off somewhere? Also, is it usually expensive to get your ring appraised? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!! ;)

Haha same thing happened to me! I was 5.25 hen we purchased then turns out I'm a 4.5. I had it sized down to that and hated it because it was more difficult than I would like to get off so I went back to a 5. It spins but it's comfortable and not enough to fly off! I also would account for swelling in summer and potential weight gain. I'm the lightest I've been since high school and know I probably won't maintain it. So careful dropping too much in size.

My resizing was done right in front of me in under 30 mins both times they did it. It is white gold if it makes a difference. Depending on the store most places can do it same day and if they aren't busy they can do it on the spot. My jeweler is awesome and made me top of the list for the jeweler and he dropped wat he was doing to help me.

Who makes your ring? Where did your fiancé get it? They may offer free sizing.

As for appraisals I think they can range from $100-150? At least in my area and take about an hour or so to really be thorough. And you shouldn't have to ship it out, it should be available to you locally by an independent appraiser. I used the one provided to me from what it was bought so I don't know too much about it. I don't think you need a new one just for resizing though? Maybe someone else can clarify.

Where did the ring come from? Not all jewelers will do it while you wait or in 24 hours. You might want to ask around locally for a recommendation. If you JUST got it and it came from an online vendor I would send back to them. Also---are there diamonds IN the band? Like pave work? That might render it unsizeable.

It's not unsizable, but it make it more work intensive for the jeweler.

op- you may need to leave it bigger to make room for the
band.

Hey girls, thanks for all the responses. I know its white gold, but I don't know any other specs on it, as my fiance won't tell me! I did find a jeweler though that will do it same day, and my ring has diamonds on the side (on the band part), but they don't go all the way around, plus I'm only doing probably 1/4 or 1/2 size down... a very little adjustment. So YAY I'll be able to get it resized and not have to ship it off anywhere! :D

Yay! Isn't that wonderful! So glad it worked out!

When I told the store I purchased from that I needed it sized I would of had to ship it to new york for them to ship to Los Angeles area back to new york then to me in San Francisco.... Estimated time was about 2-3wks....

Luckily I found a local authorized dealer to do it for me and he will be my go to in the future.

As long as they are not set burnished, they should be perfectly fine! Can't wait to see pics!

Most styles of eternity bands cannot be sized. At all. SOME can be tweeked about 1/8 size up but not down, only sizing beads to go slightly tighter. Rings with stones that are burnished/gypsey set, like the Etoile or Bezet bands by Tiffany also cannot be sized because the tension around the diamond is lost and the setting changes around the stone and the stones cannot stay in their seats.

Coachgirl, it's such a small adjustment that perhaps a jeweler could just put a couple of those little balls in the band, the kind that keep it from turning. I agree with those who advised to be careful about sizing it - my fingers swell in the summer, and as I've gotten older my ring size has increased a bit.

And on that note--when you are wearing your wedding band with it, it will be "further up" your finger than it presently is and will be snugger.

also keep in mind uve only had ur ring a week. my ring sometimes spins and other days its tight. your fingers fluxuate. now if its falling off thats a different story, but imo its probably not worth it for 1/4 size. its also going to fit different when you get your wedding band

eta: regarding the appraisal. you mentioned your fiance wont tell u any specs...does that mean he doesnt want it appraised? if you get it appraised you obviously will know the specs of the ring. also, if the diamond is a certified stone, youll need that for the appraisal. basically the more info you can give them about the ring, the less money the appraisal will be bc its less work for the jeweler. hth...and congrats on your engagement!

Thanks girls on the info, I think I may look at wedding bands with my fiance this weekend just for sizing on my ring before I get it adjusted or even if I should, when I put my hand down, my ring slides up on my finger underneath my knuckle but still slides up so I'm kind of nervous yet to get it resized, but it is big on.. me, lol, I know I don't want it tight but I definitely don't want it real loose... As far as the appraisal, I think il leave that up to my fiance, lol
