Resetting/redesigning jewellery

My mum has a sapphire ring that looks a bit like this

She says she will give it to me but I dont actually like the ring itself and im quite sure its possible to just take out the stone and reset it in a totally different design...just wanted to confirm that this is possible and how to go about it.

You can absolutely have the stone popped out and reset into another semi-mount or design a ring yourself and have it made. It will cost you less if you are able to find a semi-mount that you like before you move into custom. You'll probably be amazed at the number of choices. Have fun.
