My engagement ring is a round solitare set in a plain yellow gold tiffany setting. I was thinking of having it set with a ceylon sapphire on each side. But it occurred to me that this may not go with everything. I'm not worried about the color as far as clothing but sometimes I wear silver jewelry with turquoise, etc.
Maybe I should either leave the ring as-is or add diamonds instead of sapphires?
opinions?
thank you

I think sapphires are pretty versatile, hence you can wear the ring everyday. However, if you are worried about it now, then go for the diamonds on the side. You can never go wrong with diamonds.

I think extra diamonds would be pretty and easier to match with other jewelry. Perhaps down the road you could get a non engagement ring sapphire ring to wear when the outfit/ jewelry calls for it?

This is just my opinion.. any stone, certainly a sapphire, will look stunning.

I had the same problem(?)last year. I went with diamonds and I love it. I wear it stacked with two diamond bands, similar but not matching and my plain skinny original wedding band. I love the look. I did consider sapphires too, but diamonds are my fav.

My SIL's engagement ring is a sapphire in the center and two diamonds on each side. It is lovely and she doesn't seem to have a matching issue. On the other hand, I have a friend whose engagement ring is set with 2 rubies on the side of the center diamond and she doesn't wear hers very often because she says the color is distracting. I don't understand, personally. I think her set is beautiful. She's very glad that she never had her engagement ring soldered to her wedding ring.

I really like the idea of adding a sapphire band to your engagement ring if you are looking for a pop of color to spice things up.

I had my original engagement diamond reset to have a Ceylon sapphire on either side. I wear it every day and have never had an issue with it matching my outfits. You can not go wrong with sapphires!

I think sapphires are very 'neutral' stone--not literally, but in that a sapphire ring or in your case, sapphire side stones will go with your outfits w/o trouble.
I can see that there could be an issue with rubies, which can be very bright, but I have seen people wear sapphires with anything.
In Europe when they used to do colored gemstone engagement rings, I think sapphires were a fav for this reason. They are ALMOST as neutral as diamonds.
