My dad gave me his old diamond ring and now I am in the hunt for a new ring design. Here is a picture of his ring --

Not so sure of the size of the stones but I think it's about 0.3ct apiece.

I am thinking of just doing a plain three-stone setting like this one below:

Or maybe since I have small diamonds from my other jewelry which I don't use anymore, maybe I can use those and go for this design:

I think the second design might be better for a right hand ring, no?

Or maybe you all have other designs in mind? Let me know please!

TIA!!

I prefer #1 simple and classic.
If you want to do more a more elaborate settings with the stones depending on your style.
How about using the yellow gold as it is on trend?

I think it depends on how you feel about cost. It might actually cost more to use your own little diamonds in a halo setting rather than buy a new halo setting with diamonds, because the latter could be manufactured overseas by cheaper labor before being sent to your jeweler.

So, it seems like the simple design #1 would be the best use of the diamonds in that ring.

Or, you could incorporate the diamonds in your dad's ring on the shank:

How about a three stone ring in your prefered metal with a matching eternity band using the smaller stones? The small diamonds would also work well for a DBTY style sprinkle necklace and/or bracelet? Or a solid gold bangle with the smaller diamonds set at intervals around the circumference of the bracelet? Depending on your preferences you could also make diamond huggies. So many options - can’t wait to see what you decide!

Agree with some of the above posters about making a classic 3 stone ring, and then use the smaller ones on the shank, or make a DBTY bracelet or necklace. Or, for some unique design inspo, check out @studioremodnyc on IG....they specialize in creating new pieces from older pieces.

Not useful, but I love your father’s ring. You would be turning a special design into something run of the mill. Plus chunky signet type rings are very much back on trend! I would wear as is.

I agree. I would rock the ring (after resizing) on my index or pointer finger (I don't know the correct finger names).
Make a statement; people will notice instead of a kinda regular 3-stone ring.

I can’t make up my mind, I agree with everyone. I love the idea of the bigger stones set in a three stone ring, and the smaller ones set in a diamond band, or a bracelet, or bangle, or a chain!
