Resetting an engagement ring...can someone recommend a jeweler in New York?

It's been many years since I wore my engagement ring. I would like to change the band from gold to white gold with some diamonds along the band. The jewelry store where the ring was bought is no longer around and I am having trouble finding a place that wants to work on the ring. I didn't think it would be this hard.

Can anyone recommend a reputable jeweler in the New York city or Long Island area?

In Massapequa Park there's Good Old Gold, and they're great. Lots of designer stuff plus custom in house. You can also check out Steven Kirsch in the city, Leon Mege in the city, both are masters for pave, or Engagement Rings Direct is another pave option, though not as fine as the first two, but still very good.

You will likely have trouble finding someone willing to alter your current setting as it's not easy or in some cases possible, so you might be needing a total remount, where they pull your diamond from your current setting and completely reset it into a totally different ring.

I would say leon and steven as well. but if your willing and comfortable to go outside of nyc i'd say try to work with victor canera, he's amazing, patient and his work is impeccable. i'm a stickler for details and very few people meet my criteria.

Kent Jewelry Inc at 71 W47 Street in NYC does this type of work and they are reasonably priced. I had some rings redone and a pendant altered and I was very pleased with their work and prices. Ask for Nick, he helped me with my stuff and he was easy to work with.
I recommend them highly.
Good luck!

you mentioned "with some diamonds along the band", you mean to set diamonds on a plain band that you currently have? the process would involve just melting the whole ring and using the gold to make a new one. I would suggest just getting a new band all together.
You can rhodium the ring to make it look white gold but other than that, there's really not much a jeweler can do to add stones.

The best advice really depends on your budget and what exactly you have in mind. Customer service wise Good Old Gold and Steven Kirsch are my recs. If you want your setting modified you will have a hard time finding someone willing to do it and you may be disappointed if you do. For a whole new mounting you will have a much easier time. Leon Mege can be a nightmare to work with and will be expensive. ERD is best IF you know exactly what you want.

If you want to choose a designer setting, Good Old Gold carries MANY brands (they can access any styles from the brands they carry. Few are on their site)! The ring would be ordered in your size and made to fit your diamond.

If you want custom, I would recommend Steven Kirsch in NYC. There have been some major problems with Leon Mege, so I would not recommend him.

They will all tell you to start over with a new ring because there is not much left when you want to change the whole band to a different metal and add diamonds.
