Hi -- what are people's thoughts on the bags that seem like the deal is too good to be true on sites that I *think* are reputable, like TheRealReal, Fashionphile, etc? For instance, when you see one classic flap in a classic color in seemingly very good condition for a fraction of the price of all of the other similar bags listed? I never totally know what to make of that and would love to hear everyone's thoughts/opinions/experiences?

Thanks!

Hmmm, I would just be sure you’re comparing the exact same bags. Small variations/styles can swing the price significantly. Also if the bag has authenticity, dust bag, box, receipt or proof of purchase. Possibly the better deals are because an item hasn’t sold and they want to make way for new inventory, but I’d think most of the bigger resellers are going to have their prices marked competitively. If you see what looks like a great deal from a reputable seller with authenticity and good photos, go for it, but know that you’d be unlikely to sell it for more if they’ve set the price low.

Thanks so much - there’s a black caviar medium classic flap with barely any wear on fashionphile for 6400 when all the others (many in worse condition) are upwards of 8k, I can’t figure out why this would be. And while I feel like 6400 is of course not a steal for, it seems low compared to the going rates in resale and obviously retail for a medium classic flap…?

It does look like Fashionphile has several under 7k in decent shape but without authenticity cards or dustbag/box. If that doesn’t bother you, I’d definitely consider the purchase, although it would be difficult to re-sell. You also might want to quickly research the year the bags were produced because some years are known for having better leather quality than others. The nice thing about Fashionphile is they accept returns so if you receive it and realize it’s more beat up than you expected, you’re not out 7k.

Thank you! I just realized I misspoke, it’s on the RealReal - does this change anyone’s opinions? I’ve heard mixed things there
At the RealReal I was recently told by a SA that reducing prices is up to the consignee -as 2 bags I was interested were exactly the same, yet one was clearly lower(by about 5% lower).....Some want a faster sale, & as stated above condition, box, proof of purchase may also factor in. Maybe someone here has dealt with them as a seller and can shed more light on the subject. Good luck!

It is somewhat a very personal choice EVEN IF everything being equal, my guess is as long as you are happy with the item then that's a good buy.

Authenticity card is not that important, it's only Important to buyers who have no experiences in Chanel or buyers who are very specific on their requirement. I have bought and sold quite some Chanel bags WITHOUT the card for the same price range as if they had cards to consignments and individual buyers and consumers .

I have bought many bags from Fashionphile and I've always found them to be in much better condition than described on their site. And they have a good return policy. Give them a try!
I would choose Fashionphile out of the two. If the bag has an odor or you don't like the bag, you would have to consign it back to them or another reseller. I have two bags that I bought at RR, but they were in the hundreds of dollars, and I was satisfied with both.
