If you purchase your bag through email or phone, you are charged the price exclusive of VAT directly.
If you purchase the bag in person at the boutique, you are charged the full retail price, and you'd have to claim VAT refunds at the airport, and the refund you get back is less administrative charges of about 5 - 10%.
For instance, the price of a RH City is 945 GBP. If you buy it from Bal London through email, you're charged 787.5 GBP. If you buy it in London itself, then you pay the 945 GBP and then claim the tax refund of about 11% (it's lesser due to the administrative charges levied for processing the refunds).
Notes:
- For purchases made through email or phone, you will need to email/fax them copies of your passport (to prove that you're a non-EU resident), credit cards for payment etc.
- Additional costs to factor in includes customs taxes (which are levied on the bags when they enter your country) and shipping and insurance costs, which can start from 8% of the price of the bag (Bal Cannes and Paris), 60 EUR (Bal Milan), and 80 GBP (Bal London) for international shipping.
- Each customer is only allowed to purchase a maximum of THREE bags per season.
- Current policy is that the European boutiques are not allowed to sell current season colours via mail orders till much later in the season.
