Hi all, had a question as I’m a bit new to the whole luxury bag scene and wanted to understand if there’s any comparison to my experience in purchasing watches.

First let me start off by saying I’m buying the next bag for my wife, I purchased a classic flap bag earlier this year for her and am about to purchase the boy bag, I believe it’s called.

Given that I’ve spent approximately $10k this year, should I expect Chanel to provide any gift with the purchase or should I dare to ask? The reason I’m asking is because after buying multiple watches from local dealers, I occasionally receive a branded gift now and then.

Thanks for your help and Happy New Years!

If you’ve only made two purchases, that’s very unlikely.

Not that it makes a huge difference but even spending 6 figures a year at Chanel, you MIGHT get like a scarf or a little acrylic jewelry box. If you spent 6 figures only on clothing or precious jewelry (not costume) you might be invited to some parties or be able to special order items not avail in the US. Chanel doesn't really do VIP anything (more so if you are in Paris) - it isn't a customer-centric company focused on loyalty and repeat purchases. I get more with being a VIC at LV even tho I spend more at Chanel  One of my Chanel SA though (but this is not through the mother ship) DID have petit fours, chocolates and tea waiting at my hotel room when I checked in @ Hawaii last year. But that was the person that HE is, not the company in general. Find a REALLY great SA and just stick with them instead of getting on any kind of central radar.

Hi! A couple bags a year is not enough to get VIP treatment at a boutique.

I would recommend you focus on getting the bag you want, at any location, boutique or dept store.
Don’t focus on loyalty to an SA. If you see the bag, grab it.

Ironically, the most loyal SAs I’ve had are SAs who work in the shoe dept of a dept store. A bag purchase equals a lot of shoes so they are more than happy to get that bag for you. I have always gotten what I wanted from a shoe SA, but I have been disappointed multiple times with a boutique SA.

Bottom line though... I have learned... if you want a bag, find it and buy it ASAP. The best way to get a bag is when it first comes out in the season. They are available at stores and boutiques, and SAs are happy to sell what’s in stock to the first buyer.

Hope this helps.

Happy New Year to you!
The luxury watch market is very different from the luxury fashion market. To get nice freebies, discounts or loans from luxury bag brands, you need to be an “influencer” with thousands and thousands of followers on Instagram. On the other hand, as a luxury watch buyer, my watch merchants give me a nice discount just for walking through the shop door! It is much easier to be a watch collector than a handbag collector in my experience, if what you are after are material perks other than champagne, chocolates, invitations, flowers on your birthday, etc.
Good luck on your luxury handbag journey!

Not with the 2 bags, I don't thinks so. In fact I would bet very unlikely.

It helps if you have a particular SA. But I find doesn't really matter with designer bags vs high-end watches. In my local chanel shop, there is a list in that everyone gets informed once the bag comes in but it is still first come, best dressed. In fact, you don't have to be on the waitlist as long as you come in first. What happens is popular Chanel items seem to be always out of stock.

Not so with watches as you may be aware. You can't even get into the waiting list! However, on the plus side, having multiple purchases does get you in their "VIP" list. I have made 3 rolex purchases before I managed get into waiting list for explorer. I am no VIP , far from it. I am still waiting for my chance to buy the watch - was so surprised with this, but apparently norm. But they at least stick to the waitlist. I personally found the watch world to be more fierce. BUT I digress..

The watch retailer also tend to be more "generous" with gifts.
