I started seeing a guy who is in dire need of shoes. His daily shoes are dark grey slip on Sketchers . I don't think his previous two girlfriends were very fashionable. He's in his mid 50s and doesn't care much at all about fashion. I bought him a few long sleeved dress shirts and a half zip sweater from Banana Republic because all of his clothes are so old and worn. He really liked the new items and how he looks in them so I know he will be open to new shoes.

I'd love to see him in shoes that are comfortable but a little more elevated than Sketchers, which probably won't be hard LOL. I don't see him wanting to spend money on shoes like Hermes or the like. They will need to be good looking, current, and easy to walk in. I'm thinking basic colors like black and brown.

Please send stylish suggestions my way! :)

P.S. I just convinced him to upgrade his 1999 Toyota Corolla. He is looking at a new Jaguar F Type now so there is hope!

My DH dresses very well, better than me and he still loves his Peter Millar and monochromatic On Cloud sneakers for daily wear.
Peter Millar sweaters/pullovers are also really nice without being Zegna level.

Did he even ask for a beauty and style counselling? Why the mothering?
Perhaps a shopping tour together would be nice and not as patronizing :giggle:

If you don’t want to break the bank it’s hard to beat TLB Mallorca. But they might lean a bit dressier than his current aesthetic.

I assume you know he can afford these things? that's a pretty big jump from a corolla to a Jag

Be careful Lori. Men have more fragile egos that they appear at times. You don’t want him getting the message he’s “not good enough” or that you are embarrassed to be seen with him or in his car (are you)?
I’m sure you are trying to help the guy out and you enjoy fashion but unless he’s asking for help just be careful. ❤️

It took me years to convince DH saving on shoes was not a saving. Besides boots and sneaker-y types, he presently has 3 pairs of Gucci shoes that he gets resoled because he loves them so much. One pair he has had for over 10 years and are hybrid formal/sports. Other Italian shoes I'd recommend, quality of Gucci without the price tag, Fratelli Rossetti https://www.fratellirossetti.com/gb-GB-en/Default.aspx (change settings for the States). I (a woman) have a pair of high suede boots from FR, and OMG, they are incredible. These are a step up from Sketchers https://www.fratellirossetti.com/gb-GB-en/Sale_sneakers_R23.aspx

I would look at some of the traditional British brands because they also do the best sporty/casual shoes with the least fuss, like Crockett and Jones https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/all-mens-styles

We have gone shopping quite a few times. He enjoys it. I got him a few things to wear because we went out to dinner a few times and he admitted he didn't have much to choose from.

I appreciate the input. He said he was going to get a new car because it's so old that he was having trouble getting it smogged. Also one of the belts is starting to make noise and I'm guessing the repair would be more than the car is worth. He can drive whatever he wants but right now he prefers my car! We drove to the Jag dealership in my car because he said it's more fun, LOL.

He has been very helpful at my condo, he helps me with anything I need. I am sure to constantly tell him how much I appreciate him. He says he enjoys coming over and helping. I also cook him dinner every time he is over. I know it's a fine balance. :)

sounds like a practical guy. If you get really serious with him, he may not be one to buy you luxury gifts but he may be one who has lots of assets to provide security for you and him.
