Hi ladies,

I am wondering if any of you may have a fine jewelry designer/artisan you can recommend.

My late husband passed away a little over two years ago, and since then I put my engagement ring and wedding band away in the jewelry box. But lately I am thinking to have a jewelry designer make a custom-made pendant for me using the diamond on my engagement ring and my Tiffany platinum wedding band (which has his name engraved on the inside). I'd like to have that as a keepsake and I can wear the pendant all the time (instead of having them sitting in the jewelry box). And in the future I can pass it down to my daughter.

I have no idea where to look and what's the price point (I live in LA). I checked out some of the custom-made jewelry sites online but the pieces shown look rather old and too mature for my taste. I am in my early 30s (but look even younger) so I'd like the pendant to be a little on the modern side.

TIA for your help! :smile1:

I THINK 23rd Street Jewelers and Single Stone are both in LA area. Both are magnificent.

Further, I am SO sorry for the loss of your husband, so young.

Single Stone is a good one. A lot of the jewelers in the jewelry district have bad websites but once you go to the actual store, you will be amazed by their creativity and design. Try Icing on the Ring, Eli's Jewelry, IntaGems, Bridal Rings, and Pop Gems. They are all rated highly on Yelp (and I've been to all of them while ring shopping and each place has superb customer service!).

Good luck!

23rd street is a great recommendation (although a little pricey). They're on Wilshire and 23rd in Santa Monica. Otherwise, check out briangavindiamonds.com -- they'll make create something unique based on discussions with you or will make something based on a design you provide. Also look at jewelsbyericagrace.com -- fantastic designers!

My ering setting was made by 23rd Street and it was less expensive than Single Stone could do a much simpler setting for. 23rd Street is much more skilled at a broader range of styles IMO. Good luck, and I'm so sorry about your husband.

So what's the price point I should expect?

And thanks for the kind words. It's been two years and honestly the worst time has passed. And I just thought that as I have been transforming so should the rings. I don't want to just store them in the jewelry box like forever. I still wanna be able to wear them as they will always mean something to me!

The price would depend on materials used (i.e., platinum vs. white gold), prices for raw materials at the time you commission the piece, whether the design you want calls for other materials (like melee diamonds, etc.), etc. I was just saying that the price I got from 23rd Street was less in relation to what Single Stone could do. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, I think you'd really need to just start asking around to get an idea of a ballpark price point.

My parents like:

NGY Jewelry
763 S. Main St. #188
Orange, CA 92868

(714) 569-0791

The store is located near Mainplace. They have had items designed, and made special orders over the last 20 years from Ken and Terri, owners.

I went to 23rd street (but their Manhattan Beach store). They quoted me for $1000....kinda pricey. But it's ok, seems like they are very knowledgable. It will take 2-3 weeks so I will sure post pics!!
