Hello everyone,

I just joined purseforum. If I did anything wrong that violate the community rules, please let me know! Thank you!
I bought a Hermes Constance bag from a seller in Canada. I used UPS as a carrier; however, when I received yesterday, it is an empty box.
I assume one of the drivers or workers stole it because two days ago I was being charged $700 duty, meaning the bag is still there when customs check?
Does anyone know what I should do? I know for now I can file a claim on UPS but not sure what they will do. I have the bag serial number.

Thank you,
Jessie

How did you pay? Hopefully AMEX or Paypal?

Yikes! That's not good.

What makes you think the bag was stolen, rather than not shipped in the package from the beginning? Was there evidence of tampering? Were the tape seals broken or re-taped?
Thank you for your reply☺ I’m so helpless and feel a lot better talking to someone. Yes, the package is being opened and newly sealed with a silver duct tape. The seller used the transparent packaging tape all over the box. Although she didn’t do video recording but she sent me a few photos when she was packaging and dropping off.

Hi Jessie, welcome! This is so upsetting. Is it possible that the bag was stolen between the time it was delivered and the time you opened it? Both UPS and customs would not use duct tape to seal a package.

Hello!! Thank you! I required signature so I got the package immediately from the ups driver and opened it. When I take over the package, it is very light so I found it suspicious. I asked my boyfriend to do a video recording for me. When I opened there is just paper wraps and the black tote left.

If you do a search for "empty box", you'll find quite a few threads, and hopefully some good advice. I think the best bet is going to be filing a claim with UPS. Please don't use wire transfer anymore, it's not safe, and you have no recourse. Good luck to you, I hope it works out!

Wow. Well at least you used UPS and not USPS...should be much easier to file a claim with UPS.

So sorry you didn't use CC/AMEX or PayPal for the whole transaction amount...you may have little recourse with a wire transfer.

Did the shipper insure it? What was the purchase price of the bag, if I may ask?

Sorry you are going through this. This has happened to me twice. One package was from farfetch it was a bottega veneta handbag. It didn’t require sig. My son accepted the package and told me immediately that the box felt empty. I rushed over and it was obviously tampered with. I opened it to find only tissue. No bag. I rushed over to the UPS driver who was down the street. Confronted him that he delivered an empty box. He said he just delivers and doesn’t check weight of box. I called UPS and farfetch. I took lots of photos. It took a few weeks for the case to be resolved. It was in my favor and I got my money back. I paid via CC. The second package was from fashionphile it was a Hermes bag. Also shipped UPS. This was approximately 6 months later. The package arrived to my local UPS hub, but never made it on the truck to be delivered to me. The box and contents went entirely missing. That was an obvious win. It took a week or so and fashionphile refunded me. I don’t use UPS anymore. The people who load the trucks know the labels. From what I was told theft is high at UPS. Hope this info helps. It was a nightmare for me. I was really stressed, but it did work out. I do hope it works out for you.

I agree about UPS. Although not a bag, my bank sent some new credit cards to me. The driver delivered an envelope that was ripped open and empty. Whoever stole the card went on a shopping spree. I checked my cameras and no one tampered with it from the time the driver delivered it to when i received it. Definitely an inside job within UPS. They claimed no responsibility but my bank easily returned the charges.

This is from a private reseller and not Hermes, correct? The thread should be moved to the eBay forum. Folks there have heard of similar situations and will ask the right questions and hopefully have guidance.
