So, at the beginning of the month Holt Renfrew (Canada) had a 25% off card holders' sale. I 'purchased' a David Yurman petite albion ring. It had to be ordered because they did not have my size in stock.

They processed my payment on April 3rd. I get a phone call today from the store advising me there was a price increase and I will now have to pay $70 more.

My initial reaction to my SA was NO WAY! She said she would talk to her manager and get back to me and I could decide whether I'd take it or not.

My way of thinking is that I bought it on April 3, it was processed on my card, if it had been in stock, I would have left with it then. Why should I have to pay more because they didn't process my order asap???

I'm seriously irate. If they say I have to pay the difference, I'm not getting it - just out of principle. I really like it but...

Thoughts?

I agree 100%. The transaction already happened. I could maybe see if they had a policy where they didn't charge you until they could deliver the item, but I would do the same thing out of principle.

It's the Edmonton location.

I'm hoping that my SA will come through - I think she could tell I was less than impressed with the phone call. She is going to talk to the manager but said it would be up to me what I decide. Which I took to mean I could pay the extra and get the ring or not pay the extra and get a refund - no ring.

So not happy.

that's not right...i'm an SA with a montreal designer called Rudsak and I would never ever do that!! if there's a price increase thats fine...on everything on the floor from that date onwards, but a previously ordered item does NOT get adjusted!!!
IMO I think you should be accomodated by holts because of your bad service..perhaps an extra 10% off because of your dissatisfaction?

I'm in Toronto and if our Holts tried to pull that on me I'd be SO mad... I'd go right into their customer service office and give it to them, especially since you have a Holts card and are a loyal customer. That is really unfair and I almost think illegal too - I was taught in grade 12 law class that if a deal is struck and you pay for it, it's a done deal... it is the sale's agent's fault for not being on top of the price increases (or Holts') and it is NOT your concern. The price was listed and you accepted it, end of story. I think if you push with a manager you'll get your price. I WOULD!!!

^^Exactly. In the U.S (don't know about laws in Canada) Offer and Acceptance has taken place. The store offering the item at the disclosed price is the offer, the payment of the item is the acceptance. As long as the payment was valid (it wasn't a bounced check for example), a contract has taken place.

Hells no! I mean, would they call you and give you some money back if it went on sale?? This is the exact same thing... they can't ask you to pay more if you purchased it at the agreed upon price, even if it increased the next day.

Assert yourself and put pressure on the Manager. This is not right.
