I've learned over the years that our sensitivity to things varies based on our
personal experiences.... including what you learned at home and school, what
you personally saw and experienced, and even what part of the country
you grew up in or live in now. Some sensitivity is linked to what has been
a part of our own lives and some based on what we observe or read about
or hear about or learn about. It's all valid.

And if we can talk about it, we make progress and make things better
for everyone.

Years ago, at work, my boss and co-worker were huddled in meetings that
they excluded me from. Both were southern gentlemen and I had an excellent
relationship with them. When the younger of the 2 finally told me what was
going on, it turned out to be an abbreviation (in a document) that they considered
derogatory to women. I admit I had never heard the term before and had no
emotional reaction to it. They were furious with the author of the document who
refused to delete the word when it was pointed out as a problem.
Intellectually I agreed with my boss and co-worker, but my responses didn't
have the emotional content that theirs did. It taught me a lesson I have
never forgotten.

Intent is important and language is powerful. But it's also important to
make changes when mistakes are identified and apologize for them, even
if they were unintentional.

'What's the big deal' is easy to say when it doesn't affect you or you can't
even see a problem. But in thinking about what QVC did when the
issue was pointed out to them, I think they did the right thing.
Anyway, that's my reaction.

I didn’t receive the original 6a email. So when I saw the apology email I thought ok they acknowledged they offended someone and apologized in masse. I appreciated that they did acknowledge their mistake. Some never apologize. They just keep it moving.

I have shopped with them since the late 80's.
Here's a link to their forum explaining what probably happened.
As an Asian woman myself, I was not triggered nor offended.
Life is simply too short to waste brain cells on this.

Wow. Thank you for this I am at a loss for words at some of these responses. Sad we listen but don’t hear and can’t put ourselves in someone else’s shoes even after they explain
