Good evening lovely TPFers... Apologies as I didn't know the best place to post this to solicit ideas.
I've inherited a quite old Persian medicine chest that my grandma used for her jewelry box. It's spent the last two years at a museum being restored close to my mom's house, and now it's time to get it to my house... a third of the country away! I think it's around 100 years old, and quite fragile with inlaid stone, bone, etc... so obviously I want it treated with kid gloves. I was hoping that it would fit in a hard side carry on, and I could just pad it to death, unfortunately it's just a bit big to fit the airline criteria. Next best idea I have is to buy it its own seat so I don't have to worry about the size. Dimensions of the piece itself are 15x11x12.
Any other ideas of how to transport it? I hesitate to have it shipped given its age and state and the fact I couldn't even get china shipped here without a couple casualties!
TIA!
