Question re: Embossed Legacy Duffle at some dept stores but not Coach?

I bought an embossed Legacy Duffle at Macy's last night. After I got home I looked for it on the Coach website. It wasn't there. I did find it on Lord & Taylor's website but the store in my area doesn't have it in store. Do dept stores sometimes get items that the Coach stores don't? Also, it's not showing on Macy's website though some stores have it in store. None of the Macy's in my state have it. I had to go out of state. The Macy's I got it at is in a big mall that has Nordstrom as one of their anchor stores. Nothing like that in my state. Just a Lord and Taylor as an anchor store at one mall. I had to pay state tax. No state tax in my state but no embossed Legacy Duffle either.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you had ordered it to be sent to you, you shouldn't have had to pay sales tax. It's only if you buy it in person that you have to pay the local sales tax.

That is true, but OP said she wouldn't have had to pay sales tax if she had bought it in her state. I'm assuming that means her state doesn't have any sales tax. So if the store could have mailed it to her, she would have avoided paying the tax.

Correct. I paid the tax instead of having it shipped. My friend recently had a bag shipped and UPS delivered it to the wrong address. Macy's reimbursed her. The next day she found the bag stuffed in her mailbox. Luckily, no damage. I'd rather pay taxes and have bag in hand.

I did get the 25% discount. I was half heartedly searching to see if I could find it tax free. Tax wasn't too bad.
