Hi everyone! I've been considering a hamilton for a while but have been on the fence because everyone seems to have 1 and I've heard very mixed reviews on the quality...ie. scratches or flaking of metal on the lock etc...I would love to hear from you about your experience with the quality of your Hamiltons! TIA :D

I have one Hamilton that has gotten a beating since I purchased her from eBay brand new and I have no complaints. The lock and hardware are holding up. Rain has gotten on her and it hasn't stained. She's been stuffed in a drawer and still looks great. She's an artisan leather Hamilton though so I don't know if that makes a difference. I was at Macy's today to purchase the new nautical canvas one and looked at the regular Hamiltons, two of which were returns and the leather was scratched on one and the lock on the other was scuffed. Perhaps it depends on how gentle you are on your bags?

I've had mine for over 6 months and she's still going strong! Practically use my hamilton everyday! I have the leather version so it has soften up a lot over time. If you love slouch, go for the leather, if you love structure, go for the saffiano leather. I stuff her to the brim almost all the time and there has never been a problem. Yes, the hardware I believe, has scratches, but in my honest opinion it will happen with daily use of ANY bag, so I don't see it as a problem. Plus these scratches are not noticeable unless you really look at it.
I have never had a problem with flaking of the hardware (I have black with gold hardware).

I get compliments on my bag all the time and with my purse addiction I keep persuading myself that I'll buy another bag and use it almost as much as my Hamilton but I always end up going back to my black Hamilton! It truly is a great handbag, versatile and chic! What else could a lady ask for...:love:

I have had mine for a few months. I was on the fence about the Hamiltons for several years. I couldn't get past the slouchy shape.

I saw a saffiano (in purple) on clearance and I ended up getting that one. I love mine. It is great for carrying my laptop and daily essentials. I get compliments every time I use it.

As for hardware scratches? I haven't noticed any, but honestly, that is to be expected for anything. The only way to avoid scratches is to keep the plastic on it. I'd call that expected behavior. Now if it scratched when I ran my fingernail over it, that would be a different story.

Thanks everyone...you make a good point...hardware is bound to get scratches but I think because the Hamilton has so much hardware it seems more noticeable to ppl...if that makes sense lol. I really want the red saffiano Hamilton satchel but I have to wait for now :)

FYI if u wear any decorated belts...such as a bling type belt w crystals or jewels on them, or wear jeans w jewel crystals on the side pocket b careful w some Hamiltons. I have a studded black Hamilton...the newer one released in Feb. It has extensive scratches now on one side where the big studs r under the handle. My guess it's from either rubbing against my jeans crystals or my belt crystals rubbed up against it while carrying. The hardware DOES scratch easily that is true...im not hard on my bags by any means...but there's a lot of hardware on this one to say the least. No flaking yet tho and the leather is great so far.
