Hi all, I've already asked this question somewhere else but I'd like to hear more opinion on other handbags owners. I have a habit of wiping all my bags down with wet paper towel everytime I got back home since it's covid era and I have sweaty palms too, I feel the need to do a quick wipe thorough to all my bags. I don't use baby wipes or any other cleaner as I don't feel neccessary and also feel that water is harmless anyway, but only recently it came to my mind that water contains chlorine and other chemicals used to purify water, and now make me question if I even do the right thing of wiping down my bag. Anyone has any input on this? And if anyone has the same habit and your bag coating/finish looks okay or the leather doesn't look drying out? Wonder what happened if God forbids we have a spill? Should I start carrying baby wipes everywhere then?

If I were to want to wipe my bag down with water I'd do it with a damp - not wet - towel. and not every day
Occasionally during the covid outbreak I'd wipe parts of my bags - maybe handles or bottom - with a paper towel damped with a mixture of alcohol and water. I'm vaccinated and not as vigilant about that sort of thing now. I do still wipe my phone down when I've been out

Oh and of course some leather is more delicate than others. I wouldn't do this with a very soft lambskin or a light colored bag that might show spots from the moisture

What kind of answer are you looking for? I've seen you post this same question in multiple threads. There have been good suggestions including the two responses above; basically everyone has said don't use water. What more feedback do you need?

Why do it? Water isn't protecting you from Covid. Yes, it can dry your leather out over time. The water actually bonds to the oil in the leather and draws it out. To clean them you use a leather cleaner followed by a conditioner, water wipes are best for coated canvas.
My hands are sweaty too so I somehow feels the need to wipe it down

Alcohol? You're very brave! I wouldn't be able to try to wipe it with alcohol, even if it's dilluted
