Question about Rebelle

I bought a beautiful dress on Rebelle but the measurements given weren't accurate, I had bought in the past before and was actually always quite happy, but this one must have slipped through, so I contacted them, I just got the standard reply that all items are checked and I can list and sell it for free, which I did.

So same dress, same condition, as I couldn't wear it, basically the same listing just with the correct measurements, I had it in a garment bag in the wardrobe, when it sold I shipped it the same day.

Yesterday I got an email inviting me to give them feedback regarding their service, so I could use their selling service for 15% off, this morning I get an email that the dress didn't pass inspection and they are sending it back to me.

I find this very weird, it is he same dress, in the same condition it passed their inspection when I bought it 3 months ago, since it was too small for me, I couldn't wear it, so it is in absolutely the same condition I bought it and when it passed their inspection, yet all of a sudden it is not in very good condition?

I tried to call them, the woman on the phone told me that the quality control makes the choices and there is nothing she can do, it is another department maybe I wore it, I pointed out that when I received the dress, I contacted them that the measurements are not accurate and that it doesn't fit and that I would like to send it back, but was told it is not possible but I can resell it for free, so impossible that I wore it and yes, it says it is a US size 6 but it is cut extremely small and the waist is off by 5 cm. Reply, all they can do is let me resell it for free.

I am really really angry about it. In the past I never had any problems with them, admittedly I mainly bought and only sold 3 items through them, but that all went well (all last year) and now the dress that passed their inspection and is literally in the same condition I bought it is not "very good" but just "acceptable" - I honestly have no explanation.

With selling service, do you mean the consierge service they are offering? Because they are pushing that really really heavily at the moment and almost everybody I know had items returned that were as described, it's turned into a real joke.

I explained it in another thread, basically if you use the consierge service, they will put really really low prices on the items (they have them anyway and if you want them back you have to pay them to ship them back) and charge an even higher commission, they raise the commission in general anyway. Personally I believe this is because they had some venture capital pumped in and they want to see as much profit as possible.

They also try to stop people from listing on other sites, they know there are sites out there who offer the same service but cheaper and for the most part much better, so if they have the item, you can't list it anywhere else, so they are dealing with the competition at the same time while being able to force you to sell for totally ridiculous amounts, I think for them it is now quantity over quality. The service they are offering now is beyond a joke.

A friend used the consierge service and was totally unhappy, the pictures were horrendous, the description bland, the initial price a joke but with the bland description only low ball offers and then daily mails from Rebelle she should lower the price even more, she wanted it back to sell it herself somewhere else with better pictures and they charged through the nose for sending it back, then the service they used didn't even ring or leave a card, so her item was "lost" for ages, then she gets an email that her address must be wrong and within 2 weeks or so her bag would be property of Rebelle. I think she got it back eventually, but if you mention Rebelle to her, she is basically foaming. I guess when they do consierge, they use an unpaid intern and you are at their mercy anyway since they have the item and another webpage can't sell it, they can force such a low price on the item that it will sell fast, therefore making a quick profit without much effort and on the back of the sellers.

I suspected for a while that there is something odd going on since really so many people got items back with really really weird explanations, like apparently there was a stain when there was none, part of it could be explained with mistakes, but lately that seems to be just normal and always with the prelude of "Hey, you can use our consierge service cheaper if you give us feedback..." That it doesn't just smell fishy but like fish being left in the sun for days...

It is a shame really, because from a really good website they now have turned into a site that I totally avoid. I have no problem with them making money but the way they are going on about it. They are additionally now trying to force sellers to pay extra for insurance, despite the items being insured with UPS anyway, so that is just money that goes to Rebelle.

I'm just so angry that the dress they sold and checked through the website was labelled "excellent" and since it didn't fit (where they obviously hadn't checked the measurements) they flatly refused to take it back and only gave me the option of reselling it for free, so I am selling the same dress in the same condition and it is all of a sudden just "acceptable". But yes, it makes sense as they offered money off if they would sell it completely for me, but after that experience, I don't trust them anymore.

It also makes sense, because I had bought from another seller on the site before (same size and taste in clothes) and was always delighted with the items, even if they were described as only good, they were totally pristine, my last 2 orders they sent me a message that the item didn't pass quality control, so they are possibly playing that game with a lot of people and thanks to the layout of the site, you can't really get in touch with the sellers, because I'd be totally confident to buy from that seller.

Personally, I won't be using them again and just hope that they send the dress back ASAP so I can sell it somewhere else. That experience really left such a bad taste in my mouth, it is so shady and dishonest.

Btw I didn't even know that they raised their commission, I didn't even get an email.

They didn't announce it (you would think that would be the decent thing with "we are increasing our fees") they just did it.

As for the seller, can you not leave a message on "ask the seller a question" thing? I know they can read it, but if you don't plan to buy there anyway, you could possibly leave something like "hey, bought several items from you before, I have a question how to combine it/clean it... Could you send me an email to name AT domaine"

Somebody else had a similar problem and found the seller on instagram, so you could be lucky, but I think if you aren't lucky you might be just forever searching.

Btw totally agree with you, that thing with your dress is totally blatant

Good idea, I might actually make a 2nd email for just that.

I really don't understand how they tick, they worked so hard to build up reputation now they risk that totally, and rejecting stuff and sending back must cost them more, the only explanation I can think of is based on what you said, they don't want sellers offering on other platforms who might be better, so they try to push them out of business by taking the stuff in, do they think people do not look around?

I'm not sure how much you know about venture capital (not being rude, it is just a really specialised field) but usually they do invest money with the sole purpose of getting a maximum return in minimum time, apart from rare cases the company itself, they could not care less about, if they have a controlling influence, they might even sell the profitable parts of a company off and break the company into pieces. They aren't thinking long term, just maximizing profit short term and then getting out.
They possibly hired some management consultant to come up with a plan and the plan is to increase the consierge service and try to remove the competition, they know people will list on different sites as if you want to sell and item, you want a certain price for what you dished out a lot, or else everybody would use eBay or give to charities, for them it's dog eat dog, and the best way to do that is taking stuff away from other sites.

I think it will backfire, but it might take a while, and that is no concern of the venture capitalists, because they are not tied to the company or will suffer when the reputation goes downhill, on their portofolio it will show they invested well, made a profit.

My experience with them was far from great, sold a dress that I wore for an event through them, buyer cancelled the sale while the item was still on the way to them, which is apparently accepted in their Terms of service, it took 3 months to get the item back and it was not in the condition I sent it. I would not use them again.

But this thread made me curious and I googled, had to use the google translator but it seems even in Germany, where they are located, they are far from popular, not sure everything was translated the right way, but buyers and sellers seem to be equally unhappy, there are a few comments praising them but not giving much detail

Seriously, they are horrendous, just saw another post about them and people having really bad experiences, I lost about 5K worth in dresses, and that is not retail price, that would have been after their commission, they disappeared during transport, don't want to post twice, check here

Honestly, bad is not the word for them, it's much much worse. I will NEVER go near them again.

My sister bought a Hermes bag on Rebelle, she knew the bag needed to go into the spa, delivery took 2 weeks longer than expected, the next day after she brought it to the spa for the refurbishing the call "Pick up your bag ASAP, it is a fake" she was so embarrassed, the lady there was kind enough to show her how to recognise it, she contacted Rebelle and they wanted the bag back after first furiously denying that anything could be a fake but she stood her ground, so she sent it back, Rebelle claims they had it authenticated by Hermes, total BS, Hermes said they do not offer that service, she demanded to see a statement from Hermes, now apparently the bag has been sent to Hermes Paris (but no tracking or such to be shared) and if she calls nobody picks up the phone, I told her she should try to call from another number or hide her number as they obviously ghost her.

Something is going on there that seems really really questionable, she is going to open a claim with her CC as she had no refund, no documentation...

I would not buy or sell through them, they are everywhere in ads, show up on Google first, bad reviews get buried in ads but from what I have seen.

I don't want to be mean, but my sister believed all that BS about Hermes authenticating it, I really had to show her on the web that nope, they do not and if the lady in the spa said and showed her, I would trust that far more than a website claiming they do and they sent the item to them for authentication. I mean if they did, they would share the tracking, what are the privacy concerns they claim? Sis paid for the bag through the nose

I am very sorry that this happened to you, but I am honestly not surprised, they have been going downhill for a while and you usually just get comments like "sell for 50" for Prada bags or such, it's sometimes hard to reply with a "No, thank you" and not "Have you been drinking?"

I think they don't have a lot of staff and work mainly with unpaid interns and they outsourced everything, I think cutting corners when it comes to high end luxury products usually leads to very very unhappy clients

Join the club, until recently I always sold with VC, never had a problem but thought I might give the other site a try and went on Rebelle because I really wanted to clear out and the price haggling on VC annoyed the hell out of me, they are actually worse but since you went through the trouble of listing and for a quick sale you accept their "price proposal", some of the items were brand new, just went on a shopping binge when I was really down (always a mistake) so listed the items used the description of the designer, gave all measurements and my personal description.

As a result, sold 7 items, 1 item went through 6 were rejected apparently not as described (new with tags) and they are trying to get me to use consierge, out of the 6 rejected, only ONE item made it back to me, the others, tracking goes nowhere, UPS refuses to talk to me as I didn't give them the order, Rebelle claims it is a UPS issue and I should take it up with them.

I can honestly say NEVER AGAIN, I don't know what kind of outfit they are running, but it seems totally and utterly shady, there is no point selling with them. If you call them some bored phone drone I got Laura and May-Ling or so, tells you that it is another department and got nothing to do with them (same company?) but you can use their consierge service (where they really rip you off, as a friend found out).

Seriously, if I would have given my items to charity, less stress and aggro than with those freaks, if they would have to arrange a ... up in a brewery, they would struggle, I guess their mothers or nurses dress them every morning.

I know VC can be really annoying and I am not too fond of them, but compared to Rebelle, they are actually fantastic, that is how bad Rebelle is.

That's terrible! I hope everything works out for your sister. The irony is that Rebelle has an article about 'how to recognize fake Hermes' on their site now.

I've never bought anything at Rebelle, but I do sell there. I was under the impression that they are better than Vestiaire, but if I read your stories that trust is kind of misplaced.

They used to be really good, but they seem to have really gone downhill, I don't list anymore because even new stuff gets sent back, all you hear is "Not as described" and if you call you get no info as it is another department, today I tried to pick something up as "apparently I was not in" when the UPS guy tried to deliver (I was and the postman said he saw the UPS guy jump out of the car without a parcel but a piece of paper - I guess he has a stack of "You were not in" notes already filled out, 1 minute stop and then unloading at the depot, quote made, takes less time than ringing) and they do not have it... The fun and games will start.

I'm not listing with them anymore because it is a waste of time, they just reject and try to strongarm you into using their darned Consierge service where they sell for next to nothing and have bland descriptions and pics.

I honestly liked them, then all of a sudden they didn't work on all the pics anymore despite claiming they do, then the commission went up, always unannounced, they started massive price dumping, now the "rejections" with "let us sell for you..."

They seem to spend a lot of money on really awful videos, tons of ads, but not on service. Personally I don't think it is going to end well for them, far too many people don't list anymore due to that. I'm totally convinced that it has to do with the venture capital they got, because after they proudly announced it, shortly after that the whole problems started and have gotten progressively worse.

I didn't even know all of this. They never asked me to use their concierge service, but I don't sell high valued items. So I guess that's the reason LOL.

I am annoyed by the limited amount of pictures you can post in your ad. Funny thing is that some sellers are allowed to put in more pictures. Oh well.

Wait a bit, you will get the "Rate our service" mail which is a preclude to returning and then they offer you to use the concierge service for a reduced amount...

Oh heck, and you know, no body parts or a person wearing the item allowed, any doll you model it on has to be white (had a few pics rejected because I had borrowed a shop mannequin) and some sellers have stock images...

A friend took pics on a while mannequin, she had them rejected as there was "genitalia" - anyone who has ever seen a mannequin, that is like saying Barbie and Ken have genitalia, apparently for technical reasons they couldn't blur it... Graphics department???? When she told us girls over a glass of wine, we were seriously cracking up!
