After debating for months about where to buy my dbty, I'm pretty settled that I want to order from Blue Nile. I just sent them an email to see if I could order the necklace with a 17 inch chain. I want it to be short, but I feel like a 16 inch sits like a choker on me and I want just a little extra length. I was hoping they could either add some links to a 16 or take some out of a 18. I've had this done to several of my Tiffany necklaces and I always had the necklace back in less than a week.
So I just got a reply back from BN and she said that instead of lenghtening or shortening a chain they would do a special custom order, which would take 4-8 weeks and also be nonreturnable. First, I'm not crazy about waiting up to 2 months for this piece when normally they can ship them out within a week. I'm also concerned about it being nonreturnable. I'm nervous about spending over $900 on a necklace that I can't see in person or try on without the option of exchanging if I'm not happy. Also, I've seen some reveals of BN dbty and I think they're beautiful (which is why I'm considerin ordering from them) but some people have had some issues with the bezels being a little funky and I'm concerned about not being able to return if my "custom" piece doesn't look right. I'm not sure what to do...what do you think?

I think you should order an 18 inch chain and wear it for a while then send it back in to be shortened after you see how the bezel looks and how the pendant lays on you. It took them literally one day to send me mine. It seems silly to call it "custom" when all you are doing is changing the length of their standard chain and then tell you it could take months. I bet they would rather do that than have you return a purchase. I wouldn't risk not being to return it with the huge variance in bezel work that they seem to have. The other alternative would be to have a local jeweler shorten it for you if that's what you decide on. I've done that and it cost $15.

I think my plan if they can't shorten the 18 inch chain before shipping it to me will be to just order the 18 inch and as long as I'm happy with it take it to a local jeweler to shorten it. I sent them back an email asking why they couldn't just take some links out of an 18 inch for me--Tiffany has done this for me more than once and it was done in under 24 hours, and they didn't even charge me. I can't imagine waiting 4-8 weeks for a "custom" job when all I want is one inch taken out of the chain! :confused1:
I also let her know I was very leary of spending nearly $1000 on a necklace with no option to exchange or return once I finally get to see it...especially when more than one person here has had some issues with the bezels. We'll see what she says...hopefully they can work with me a bit! I'm very excited to be able to get such a beautiful diamond in my price range!

If you do get it you should try to google a coupon code. I was able to get $100 off the cost of the diamond! It looks like diamond prices have gone up in the week since I ordered so every bit counts!
