Quality wallet for my mum? Should I get an LV?

I'm thinking of buying an LV Sarah Epi Wallet for my mum. I like the size of it and think it looks really good but I'm a bit worried about the quality. I do know LV's well known for their great quality but I've also read several threads and watched reviews mentioning that their quality has been slipping over the years. Right now, my doubts over the current quality is making me unsure and I wanted some advice from people with experience on their recent wallets.

Aside from LV, are there any other brands I can consider buying? I live in Australia so I don't have access to brands like Dooney and Burke (despite their glowing reviews on quality).

I want to get her something that will last at least 5 years. She doesn't like changing her purses and would just prefer to have a durable, good quality wallet that would last her years. Preferably big enough for plenty of cards, able to withstand daily wear and tear and < AUD1000. And it helps if it looks great too.

TIA!

As much as I hate to promote Coach, they're wallets lasted a long time for me. Also, I have no complaints with both my Michael Kors. I don't believe in spending a lot on wallets.
Have you tried Gucci for high end?

My mum has a Gucci she bought in 2010. The canvas has bubbled and the leather is cracked so I was thinking of getting her a new one.

I also have a Michael Kors bag that I've only used for 1-2 years (daily) but the leather of the strap has peeled and frayed really badly that I've stopped using the bag. In comparison, my Longchamp which is older than the MK is still going strong. It was what sparked off my insistence for quality goods. Or I might be having bad luck with bags and stuff.

My sister's getting my mum a Coach bag (not quite sure about wallet). But I might actually look into Coach if she hasn't gotten her a wallet or anything.

I suggest coach as well. If you are near an outlet you can get a very nice leather one for a great price. My mom is not label conscious and loves her coach leather bags and wallets. I bought her a black and silver set. Both have held up very well and she uses them daily (black in winter, silver in summer).

I would suggest LV or Longchamp. They have a nice new line of wallets which came out a few months ago. What a sweet daughter you are. I bought my mom a coach bag and wallet several years ago for her Mother's Day and it's still sitting in the box in the closet. Sigh. Personally for my mom I would never buy her an LV because she won't understand and won't use it. Lol. I am sure your mom will love it! What a lovely gift!

I would actually recommend against coach. My mom has been wearing / buying coach for the last 30 years and their quality has gotten really shoddy. I bought her a wallet this time last year from the store (not the outlet) and the clasp fell off within a month or two of relatively gentle use. When she took it back to the coach store we bought it from, they gave her a hard time! They wanted to charge her to send back a defective item!

LV isn't my moms taste - otherwise I'd get her one in a heartbeat. I'm hard on my wallets, stuffing them full of receipts and cash and coins and my phone - and my LV wallets do well. I've had a couple of loose strings one on zippy wallet, but I bought it preloved - so it has a life before me. I've also learned that if there is any kind of defect, LV is pretty good about resolving the issue. Good luck with what you decide!

I recently got the ferragamo icona wallet and i can tell it will last me forever. really great quality, ive been using it for about a month and there isn't a single sign of wear. most designer wallets i looked at in that price point were basically a regular leather wallet with a logo on it, this one had a unique design. i didn't want to get an LV because i feel like everyone has one plus the cheaper ones were not real leather. my wallet has lots of pockets and overall just a really practical design. i'm not into the zip up wallets that don't lay flat when open since it can be kind of hard to take your cash out. the only downside to the wallet is that it has i think 7 card slots so if you have tons of cards that might not be enough. it's also slim not bulky, even with all my cards and cash, which is something i look for in a wallet.

i had a similar experience with my mother. i bought her a burberry jacket and she never wore it. she was afraid of it attracting too much attention. she was so happy to get it just couldn't feel comfortable.
