put Sateen bags with leather handle in a washer?

I am thinking of buying a pre owned Coach sateen tote with leather handle. I just read some posts about how to clean it and some suggested tossing the bag in the washer with towel. Would it be ok with leather handles? I am worried it might damage the leather trim and hanle and wanted to know. TIA

I've done it with thrift store purchases. I used the gentle cycle and it held up fine, but it was in great condition structurally wise.....just very dirty outside and yucky on the inside. So I would think it would matter about what condition the leather is in, like is the edge coating already starting to peel and such as that.
