Hi Everyone - first, as a new tpfer, I just want to thank everyone for their assistance and advice in purchasing (hopefully) my first Birkin. I love love love this forum!! I have a couple additional questions:
1. Once you purchase your first Birkin, does it help to carry it with you whenever you do into a Hermes store in the future - in other words, by owning once, does that sort of give you permission to ask to purchase another one easier?
2. If I have really bad luck at my initial attempts and have to purchase one at a marked up price on ebay, will a Hermes store authenticate it? or do they give you a hard time about this if you ask?
Thanks so much!!! Stephanie:yahoo::laugh::woohoo:

Welcome Stephanie
Yes, I would have to agree with your statement about carrying your Birkin into the store. It certaintely can't hinder your request for another one.

The only way to ensure that your Birkin is authentic as far as a Hermes store is concerned would be to take it in for a spa treatment. They won't authenticate handbags. There is a very talented experienced group of women here. If you question something that you see on ebay post it in the authenticate this thread for opinions, etc.

I hope this helps and good luck on the search for your first Birkin:heart:

I think the relationship you have with the SA is more important than already having the birkin. However, already having one, will set precedent that you are ready to hop on any available ones. The last thing the SA wants to deal with is indecision on a purchase. Do you have an Hermes boutique close to you? I find that leaving your credit card for them to swipe on any incoming with your specs works. Problem with that is returns are for store credit only.

My ultimate goal is to purchase 2 birkins in the next year or two: a Black 35cm Birkin with gold hardware and a blue jean or blue sapphire 35 cm birkin with gold hardware!!!! I know once I get the first one or two, I will probably continue forever!! I would never have a problem leaving a credit card with a store if that's what it takes.

When I go to Hawaii in vacation I'm going to try and build a relationship with an SA, buy a couple scarves and pray! I know the Birkins I want are very specific and realize that may hinder me, but hopefully I can convince the SA that I'm not a one time customer and will purchase other items besides bags....especially once I get going.

i agree with the comment that the only way you can get Hermes to acknowledge whether a bag is real or fake is by taking it into H for spa. If they will take the bag then that means its a real.

I think your best bet is to stalk your local store and build a good SA relationship. Once the relationship is made, you'll find it to be a lot easier to get ur birkin. You might not be able to be picky about your exact birkin though...

Stephanie 14, I have been really lucky in several Hermes boutiques. I really think if you go to the boutique close to you and simply talk to the SAs, they can be very helpful. I have been able to get one in each size as well as order one, all IN 2 months! I think luck has something to do with it, as I walked into 3 different shops, successful on each one. How could I say no? I know, completely nuts. I need to stop. Again, I am a normal working girl without a DH!! My husband does'nt really understadn the obsession. ONce you start, it's hard to use anything but Hermes.

Wow, HermesMonkey, you are VERY lucky? Can you tell me which boutiques you've had luck at? I don't have a local boutique - the closest is 3-4 hours away, but I travel frequently and could probably target a Hermes store with my travel schedule if one or two of them are better to build relationships at!!!

Up to now, I have been an LV junkie, but mostly because Hermes seemed unattainable. After many years of LV, I'm now ready to move on to Hermes PERMANENTLY as soon as I can build the right relationships!!!

Stephanie14, if you only go to one store, go to Wall Street. I had success there, as well as Montreal and the newest store in New Jersey at the Riverside Square. I find that the Wall Street store has the BEST selection. All walk-ins, all birkins (and then some). My sister lives in a city without an H boutique...she feels your pain. Do you have any friends who are H junkies who could perhaps help you get what you need? Your blue sapphire will be tough to get, but blue jean and black should be relatively easy. Good luck and happy H shopping!!

thanks so much - another question? In reading everything on the Forum, it seems that it's better to go during weekdays first thing in the morning. Are there any better days during the week when stock comes in? Stephanie ;)
