Can you recommend a stylish, professional briefcase that is not a man’s briefcase and is not a tote (is an actual briefcase). I prefer leather, and something that isn’t very thick, or heavy, but that can actually hold a few things. I’m looking for mid to upper designer. Thank you.

Look no further than Longchamp. Most of their "business bags" are in the men's section but there are so many unisex styles you'd be amazed. See here!
I think this style is really amazing and it seems it fits most of your requirements as well. The same style is also available in Le Foulonné leather.

Ahh. But it would be a bit pricey and I think to showy for meetings.

Ah I see I see. I wanted to make sure we are talking about the same one... it’s actually pretty low key without any hardware... is this the one you had in mind too?

I know you mentioned no tote, but I would highly recommend hermes garden party leather version. It’s leather but not heavy, longchamp does the job but having carried mine for a few years and practically indestructible I much prefer carry something more “exciting” and polished, GP is able to do that for me

Does not being able to shoulder carry it get on your nerves? I go back on this and double sens.
