Problem with Chanel Pearls

Hi I store my pearl earrings in the black velvety fabric storage and box that comes with the purchase. But after a few years of storing it, I found the velvet fabric has disintegrated and started to peel and stick onto the pearls.
The similar velvet dustbag was used to store SLG and one of my older ones has started to turn moldy and peeling off as well. I stay in a humid climate and store these in air con room. None of my other branded bag dust bags or storage has given this problem except Chanel.
And I have another pearl necklace (second photo) 20190324_221712.jpg 20190324_224155.jpg which is resting on this velvet storage has multiple spots on the pearls and the outer coating started to peel as well as I try to rub off the fabric.
What is frustrating is these pearls are store bought and authentic but it has been a couple of years I have had them. Can I go back to the store to file a complaint against their storage fabric?

You should bring them into Chanel, however they are not real pearls, so the plastic they are made of is probably contributing to them being sticky, Don't try and remove the sticky fabric from the pearls as this may remove the pearl finish.

I have the exact same issue with the OP on my brooch. Unfortunately, I tried to remove the sticky black fabric from the pearl and the shiny coat on the pearl rub off too :hrmm:

I’m going to take it to Chanel store to see if they can replace the pearl and how much it will cost

Did Chanel repair your brooch?

Sorry to hear this. Now I will pull out my earrings and brooch. I'm not in a humid climate. I wonder if wrapping items in that packing paper would help? But for those pieces that are damaged, I wonder if Chanel would fix and the cost.

My pearl necklace disintegrated as well. Tried to bring it back to the South Coast Plaza store, but they saw me with the pearls and all the sales ladies ignored me because they were busy making sales.

This is what happened to mine. I took it back to NM because that is where is bought my necklace. They will send for assessment. There is a big problem on the packaging that was used my Chanel. It doesn’t matter what climate you are in. It happened to my friend on her earrings. I used mine last April and three months later this happened.

I had the same issue with my pearl necklace. The pouch lining started peeling after a few years and when I wanted to use the necklace the white pearls had black fabric sticking on them. I used gentle baby wipes to clean them and it worked fine. Not sure how to store the necklace now though! Any suggestions?

Thank goodness for TPF! I just checked my Chanel pearl bracelet and necklace after reading this thread and noticed the same thing. Fortunately it was pretty mild. I used the microfiber cleaning cloth that comes with the Chanel handbags and was able to rub the black residue off.

Chanel pearls are not real pears, so I don't know how to store it/ protect it. I kept mine in the pouch than a box and it didn't work. The damaged necklace, I ended up throwing it away because the condition is far worse than yours.

And in the future, I will not buy Chanel pearls anymore.

You should have taken it to Chanel. This is an issue or defect on their packaging. There is nothing wrong with the necklace. It’s sad that they are not notifying customers and the SAs about this issue.

Do you think putting the jewellery on a piece of bubble wrap or some sort of plastic will help? I better check my necklaces as I havent worn them in awhile
My friend is wrapping it with the tissue paper. Don’t use any plastic. Ask your SA if they can give you the new packaging with cloth material lining.
