In a previous post I asked about drop earring styles and everyone was super helpful about sharing different styles.
I still couldn’t make up my mind on just one particular drop style.
And I’m spending a lot so I really can’t make a mistake.
So then my jeweler suggested upgrading my .80 tcw diamond RB stud earrings. The pair he showed me is 3.05 tcw G color VVS2 but they are princess cut!!!!
I researched here and the few discussions of princess studs indicates they are less sparkly on the ear than round brilliants and have a tendency to not remain straight (meaning that one or both might be with corners tilted at any given time).
However Melania rocks a pair! Hers must be around 10 tcw and always appear perfectly situated on the ear.
Any thoughts on princess cut studs appreciated. Anyone own a pair? TIA!!

Can you upgrade to a bigger RB pair? Or would that ever be an option? Personally I feel that RB studs will never go out of fashion and are an absolute classic, princess cuts less so. Melania’s earrings probably don’t move much because they’re so huge!

:giggle:Ha ha!!! You’re prolly right about that.
So the thing is he has this pair pre-owned for a great price AND I can trade-in so it’s affordable for me.
That’s why I’m considering them.
They are a nice big pair of studs with great specs that I otherwise couldn’t consider.
I also liked that they were a little different and felt kinda modern.
Stupidly I didn’t take a pic but I’m going in this week so will post.
PS-they are screwbacks which also threw me a little as I have no experience with them!

I prefer rounds because they have more facets and therefore more sparkle, as you pointed out. I had a pair of princess cut diamond earrings years ago, I didn’t like the fact that they constantly changed direction in my ears, so they weren’t symmetrical. As for the screw backs, they take some getting used to, but they’re brilliant. Much safer regular push ons.
However, it’s your call, because they’ll be your earrings. If you are loving these princess cut diamond earrings, you go for them!

I agree with the posters above. I had a small pair and I found them to be annoying as they were always askew. I think that a round cut is more classic and has more sparkle and more longevity but if you like the way princess cut looks on you then go for it! Ultimately whatever you buy has to make your heart sing. You can always trade them in later on if you tire of them.

So the princess studs did not hang well on my ear. The basket made them droopy. I could get them reset but it would just be another basket. They were sparkly and lovely but these GIA certified sapphire “Princess Diana” Earrings (approximately same price) fit perfectly and made my heart skip a beat.
I took them home....on approval.
I think I’m in love

They are truly spectacular and I love them and catch my breath every time I see them sparkle back at me but I’m having trouble quieting the voice in the back of my head that’s telling me my money is better spent on straightforward 3 tcw diamond studs!!!
I apologize to my fellow tPF for requiring so much help and handholding on this but frankly I’m just nervous and it’s such a big purchase.

I would buy what you love and will wear and not what is the best financial choice. You may never need to trade them in or may not get what you except for them. If you can afford these and absolutely love them, then keep them. But I agree with DB - try the other ones on as well.

Enjoy and wear in great health. I've learned in life to always buy what I love and what makes my heart sing. If the earrings are calling to you (and they are stunning), don't second guess it. Jewelry (and handbags, and scarves etc) are meant to be enjoyed and we work hard to be able to purchase them. If they bring a smile to your face every time you look at them, they are worth every penny.

I love my jeweler so much. I took home the sapphire-diamond earrings and they were just “too much”.
Let me explain. Because that’s not exactly what I mean.
I started this search looking to upgrade my .80 total carat weight studs. I got sidetracked by those lovelies but they were not for everyday wear. It wasn’t that they were too big or blingy. I loved them. It’s just that when I got down to it, they didn’t accomplish what I needed them to.
So we went back to the drawing board.
My jeweler had a pair of 3.05 tcw RB J/K color SI1 that were lovely and big on the ear which I liked.
Then he had a 2.05 tcw RB with the following GIA specs:
1.02 carat F VS2 good very good
1.03 carat G VVS2 very good good
They are super sparkly and blindingly white.
I went with the almost perfectly matched 2.05 tcw and they suit me. Yes, I liked the big ear coverage of the larger pair but I’m color sensitive and the better spec pair just made my heart sing. They were also significantly more expensive than the larger pair but oh well these will be my studs for a long time.
I read a lot of posts here that advise to go down in color/clarity for earrings but I just couldn’t. I don’t know if there is anyone out there that feels the same as me and wouldve made the same choice or if most of you would go big or go home!
I would love to know.....
PS both pics show 2.05

These look so lovely on you! :girlsigh: Too bad the sapphire earrings didn't work for you, but good for you knowing what you really want so you actually wear them often. I think the 2.05 ctw diamond earrings look just perfect on your ears. I don't think I would go any bigger than these. I personally like to see a little bit of the earlobe around the diamond IYKWIM for studs like these. I don't like solitaire studs to go off the earlobe. If the low color bothers you, I would absolutely go for the higher color. I don't like to see a yellow tint in my diamonds. I do have J color diamond studs from Tiffany, but they face up pretty white. I have a friend who has very big K color diamond studs, but I thought they looked too yellow for me. Congratulations on your earrings and wear them in good health.
