Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

Ugh, in the past I’ve been supportive of Chelsy, I think she dodged a bullet by not marrying Harry. But in this case she reminds me of the gruesome twosome. She announces her new baby by releasing a single photo of the back of the kid’s head and has it coincide with the launch announcement of her new jewelry line which she named after the child.

Does anyone else think that merching your kids’ names is cringey? On the plus side I suppose she’s bound to have more success than Archewell.

You have a point, but if she designed a collection of jewelry and wants to name it after her baby, I don’t see a problem with that. We would find out eventually anyway, but she did it on her terms and to her own benefit. She was offered a book deal years ago and she rejected it. Obviously, she’s not someone who is exploitative of others. I hate the back of the head business, however. Either post a proper picture or don’t.

Blind Item #7

The ginger haired one is so worried about a speech he needs to give and doesn't want to sound the most dumb there, so has hired a former Presidential speechwriter to write him a speech. The fee he is paying the writer is more than what he is getting paid to be a speaker.

Sounds like a smart investment.

I’m amazed that there are still people or organizations out there who are willing to pay H a fee to speak. Do they think there are a lot of people still interested in listening to H spout meaningless word salad? What has he done since Megxit that makes him qualified to give speeches on any topic other than how to profit from throwing your family under the bus ? His main claim to fame is as the “creator” of Invictus but that was pre Megxit when he still had the BRF machinery behind him and he really didn’t start Invictus all by himself. He certainly hasn’t distinguished himself in the field of philanthropy since Megxit and after the initial large $10 million donation to Archewell, no one is exactly throwing money at Archewell. What meaningful donations and grants has Archewell made since its inception?

Must refer to the CGI annual mtg, Bill, Hillary and Chelsea’s foundation where Harold will be a guest speaker (why pick him ???). Which Harold will it be ? Crusader for mental health / Better Up? Freedom of speech/Misinformation/hacking guru /victim ? Archewell owner ??? Novelist ? Oh… sorry that was an autobiography that he wrote …
Some other person was listed as speaking, no one of note/infamy, the other speaker is a ho-hum-yawn speaker, Harold will bring the spice … or put them all to sleep

I think organizations look for some kind of marquee keynote speaker name to draw attention to their event. But there’s usually a budget involved so they have to pick the most attention-getting name they can afford. Sometimes you can afford Oprah and sometimes all you can afford is a low rent Royal.

Most people don’t know much about Harry other than his name and title so he’s good enough.

They also don’t turn up and expect second or third tier “celebrities” to have anything of value to say. Just deliver a nice word salad and get off the stage.

I mean, this is the busiest thread on TPF. Whether people love them or hate them they draw in attention which is the point of all these events who pay people to speak. Good or bad.

Huh. Two thoughts:

1. I think the USPTO did her a huge favor - American Riviera Orchard is a terrible name on so many levels…it’s a mouthful, it’s misleading (what orchard?), it’s pretentious, the list goes on and on. If she changed the name it would almost surely be better than American Riviera Orchard (as an aside - I think the forced shift from Kimono to Skims was also a blessing in disguise for Kim’s brand).

2. This quote cracked me up:

“It will be a rather costly measure if they have to change the name at this late stage due to all the branding, but it won’t be the end of the world,” the insider added.

What are they talking about? She’s done nothing with the ARO brand for 6 months other than print out 52 jam jar labels, gift some jam and dog biscuits, then ask her “friends” to post about it for free, some of whom obliged, but most did not. Oh, and one Instagram post and a grainy video of her walking around in a ball gown…because that’s relevant. At this point her brand is all but forgotten. In fact, her brand would probably enjoy a bit of a boost from the free press she would receive if she were to be forced to change the name. Essentially she’s getting a free pass to take another crack at naming her company since she whiffed so terribly the first time. She should pick herself up and out of whatever “spin” this latest rejection has inspired (Meghan really needs to grow up…she seems to collapse whenever anything doesn’t go her way, which happens all the time). and delight in the fact that she’s been given an excuse to do a reset.

NOTE TO MEGHAN: In case you haven’t learned by now, what Meghan wants, Meghan DOES NOT always get. Welcome to “adulting”.
