Hi all! I recently purchased a Chanel classic flap in dark red tweed from Fashionphile. It was in Excellent condition, and I got it for such a great price, I thought it was too good to be true.

When I got the bag and started looking it over, I noticed a "PRESS" stamp located in the inside zip compartment of the exterior flap. I'm assuming then that this was used as a press sample. I tried doing some research and found little on this, except for a few older posts on this forum that didn't offer much concrete information. I also noticed a metallic gold marking next to the registration mark of the Chanel stamp and am not sure if this is related or just from the previous owner.

I'm curious if anyone has purchased a "Press" or "Sample" stamped bag before. What are your thoughts on buying a bag with this stamp? Do you know if this impacts the value of the bag (hence the great price)? Would this stamp cause any problems if I were to get this bag repaired in the far off future (thinking about places like the Leather Surgeons and whether they would accept a bag with this stamp)?

Thanks!

I purchased a sample cosmetic bag before (maybe 6-7 years ago from Fashionphile), and it came with the authenticity card. It was marked as a sample. I never needed a repair but I can't imagine a private repair shop would care, they aren't there to authenticate and turn down business. Mine had a black sharpie mark through the "Chanel" label. I assume it was not intended for sale when they did that. It didn't hurt resale in my instance because I eventually sold it back to Fashionphile a few years after. Fashionphile's too good to be true price might be indicative of your later roi if you want to sell it. I'm sure a press marking wouldn't be the first choice for a person wanting to buy a bag but there is generally always a buyer out there for everything. As long as you like it and are ok with it, it's cool and unique. Probably a huge bonus if you got the authenticity card.

Hi, I bought a camera reissue on ebay from a lady that used to work at Chanel, it had the press label as well. It was authenticated with no problems. They said the press label is exactly what it says, it shouldn't be an issue with any repairs or value. Its usually not for resale but owners do sell their bags, but i guess its the one tag that prevents it being brought back to store for an exchange or refund as it was a gift.
