Hi everyone!

I know this has been brought up before in that some people don't want to take prenatal vitamins if not pregnant... but, (JMO), I think, if it's ok to take pregnant, it's ok if not pregnant. A lot of them give me headaches, though. Anyone out there find one you like?

Thanks!!

I started one recently and haven't had any problems with it. I had read that they make some people sick, and the suggestion was to take it at night rather than in the morning, so that is what I've been doing. No idea if it's working where my hair is concerned (I hope! although I'm taking it in anticipation of getting pregnant soon) because I haven't been taking it very long. It's something I bought from the Vitamin Shoppe - one of their most popular ones.

My ob had told me before it's the best vitamin for a women pregnant or non. The only prob I had when I was not preg and took them, was they made me hungry

Many women take prenatal vitamins with folate before getting pregnant and during their pregnancy to prevent birth defects like spina bifida.

I have never heard of anyone taking them to grow long hair though.

I would definitely talk to your doctor before doing this because if your diet isn't really deficient in vitamins taking these on top of that may be overdoing it.

I am going to clinic tomorrow, so if I remember, I will ask the family practice doc I work with about this.

The prenatal vitamins I took were called PreCare and prescribed by my doctor. They were citrus chewable cuz I don't like taking pills, especially everyday. I always had to take them at bedtime because it would bother my stomach some, but didn't notice it when I was asleep - which was the advice of my doctor.

As for growing long hair (other post)...
I have long, long hair - all I can say is eat healthy (your hair needs protein & vitamins & minerals to grow). Use Jojoba Oil with Vitamin E once a week (I use Queen Helene in the tubes). Condition your hair everyday! Your hair is going to reflect your life - schedule, eating habits, lack of sleep. Get those in order, and your hair will grow. Your skin goes by the same set of rules - so take care of everything!

By the way - take this from someone with a crazy chef schedule & a business, a 2 year old, a husband, parents that need help... my skin & hair reflect my life. Taking a multivitamin everyday will help with hair falling out. After beginning, 3-4 days later, you'll notice your hair will fall out less and less (in the shower or in your hair brush). Not that shedding tons of hair is a problem, but I'm just mentioning this because it's one sure-fire way to see that your vitamins are working for you. Good luck!

I'm taking them still, but I'm bfing, so I'll be taking them for a while. I've noticed that they help my nails really well! I'm sure they help my hair a little too, it's hard to tell. I don't think that it would hurt to take them though..I'd probably try a multivitamin though.

My ob gyn prescribed me pre natal vitamans even though I was not pregnant, I took them for about 3 weeks and they gave me headaches daily so I stopped taking them. GNC has a couple vitamans specific for hair, skin and nails I never tried them but they might work.

I took these for a few weeks to make my hair grow (I was not and have never been pregnant), but they made me break out like crazy. As soon as I stopped taking them, my face was clear.

Prenatal vitamins MUST be taken at least 1 month before you conceive since folic acid (folate) takes approx. 1 month to build up. At the time you test positive for pregnancy you're very likely to be 5 weeks pregnant already, about time the folate starts being a necessity.

As for speeding up hair growth, I haven't heard of an effective solution, you may want to consult a hair growth specialist for this.
