Could use some opinions.

I’m in NYC and walk at least 30 min to work and back carrying a laptop, charger, phone, makeup bag, wallet, notebook, etc. I frequently go back and forth between 2 offices on the subway.

Carrying all this stuff around is starting to hurt my back. So considering a backpack for the first time since school.

What would some good designer options be that are not too heavy and can hold all that stuff?

Prada is the obvious one but would love to hear other suggestions. I tend to like more minimalist bags. I’d like to treat myself so designer would be nice but not mandatory...I looked at under the radar options like Want Les Essentiels but they seemed more aimed at guys and travel.

there is a fab Etsy artisan who makes great backpacks can even make them in ostrich or (crocodile?alligator? I forget which) She can also customize the size and inside pockets outside pockets, ANYTHING you want you can design your own from the ground up. The quality is superb, seriously. The shop is Dalle Mie Mani, her name is Laurel Dasso. Not a designer label but you said you were open to suggestions. I cannot describe enough how meticulously made her bags are. She is not cheap for Etsy but the prices are amazing for the quality. I got a beautiful (alligator? here I go again LOL) barrel bag with a detachable shoulder strap fir under $2000. Not affiliated, I just own about 20 of her bags LOL. I love them as much as my LV, Hermes and Chanel! She sews every bag herself, no staff.

Now I'll get off my soapbox LOL

Burberry came out with a nylon backpack a couple of seasons ago that was a big hit. Every time I think about buying a backpack, I think of this one, and would probably own it if I could just convince myself that a backpack would work for me! :P

If you want great quality and a real focus on function, take a look at Tumi.

Longchamp also makes a few different backpacks — not exactly “premiere designer,” but they look nice and the brand has good quality for the price. HTH!

Thank you both!

I've been looking at so many. Now I think I'd like a convertible bag, just to make it more versatile. So in addition to what you said I've looked at Mulberry, Balenciaga, AllSaints, Proenza, Botkier, M0851, Senreve...the list goes on but I'm starting to narrow.

Not convertible, but I just ordered the Marc Jacobs Easy Backpack and the Minkoff Julian. I just received the MZ Wallace Marlena, too. Now to determine which to keep! I think the Easy will be the most practical. Good luck!
