I'm looking to purchase a black purse for everyday use that will stand the test of time and is a classic. I really like the Givenchy Antigona bag, but I'm worried that it will look dated in a few years since it's everywhere right now.

Here are some of the options i'm considering:

- Prada Saffiano
- Givenchy Antigona
- Gucci Soho leather top handle
- Louis Vuitton Montaigne MM

Please help me decide!

I'd go with the Antigona.
Made the same decision myself about 18 months ago. I bought some black structured classic type bags buy still longed for the Antigona so I returned the others and went for it. The others weren't going to cut it.
I don't think it will end up looking dated. It's a structured classic black bag, I think it will always be great. I think it will be even better when it's not so popular. I usually don't jump on the it bag bandwagon until it goes out of style anyway. So I'll still be using mine!

End of the day though you're buying it and you will use it so go with what you love.

I also went through this a few months ago. I bought the antigona and I'm so happy with it. Its very functional and so chic. Where I live (so. Cal), I have not seen a single person with the bag. The only minor issue I have with the bag is that it can get heavy when you fill it up.

Of the ones you listed, I love the Antigona and the Prada. You didn't mention which Prada saffy and that may make a difference in staying power.

I own a black Prada saffy dome / bauletto style and LOVE it. It's classic, I can wear it casually or professionally and it's as no maintenance as a bag can get. It's not as common as the Prada double zips (which I also own 2 of and love) so I think it will have more staying power. I bought these bags knowing they may not have the staying power of some brands like Chanel because I love them so much. I'm willing to take the hit.

I love the Antigona! I bought and returned a mini only because it wasn't what I needed in the color I ordered but they are great bags. I'm not crazy about the stiffness of the opening but I think I'm alone on that point. I do worry about the extended gussets looking dated in a few years.

I have 3 Gucci Sohos. A mini disco, a small shoulder and a tote. I LOVE these bags but had problems with the shoulder straps on 2 of them which Gucci repaired but still...? 😕 I haven't had to have any other bags repaired ever, so despite my love for Sohos, I'll never buy or recommend them again.

Have you considered the Saint Lauren Sac du Jour? The bags are well made, beautiful and classically designed which makes me think they will last quite a while before seeming dated. This bag is on my radar screen as one of my next to buy. My only issue is I hear they are heavy which may not be an issue if you choose one of the smaller bags.

Since I'm a working woman, I love my Prada. It's understated, isn't logo-ed out, so I'm comfortable carrying that to and from the office, especially since the men at my office (like 90% of my team) probably don't even care lol.

Givenchy will have the same effect :)

I have a Gucci disco crossbody, love it but it serves a different purpose. I do like the soho chain, however I needed a bag that zips.

The black leather LV is also understated (the only way I will carry LV is if it is leather!) and can also work well.

Tough decisions! Please show a pic once you've made up your mind :)

Please allow me to suggest the Burberry banner! It is understated, a classic shape, and is more visually interesting than plain black bags, imho (it has the classic house check in the tucked in sides of the satchel). I just purchased it in black a couple weeks ago, and I am in love! It is also very reasonably priced.

Prada Saffiano! It's classy and perfect for daily use. I have the double-zip tote.

I don't really like the Givenchy Antigona. I think it's too boring and not classy at all, but it really depends on what kind of style you're looking for.
