This is interesting. Signet (owner of Jared, Zales, Kay Jewelers) just reported that their online sales were high during covid and they plan on shifting business accordingly.

personally, I like the experience of in-person brick and mortar or boutique shopping for jewelry. It just feels special. However, I’ve noticed that it’s somewhat difficult to find things so there may not be much choice of where/how to buy.

Yes I buy most of my jewelry online. I know what I like and what works for me so online shopping isn’t usually a problem. I’m careful about reading online descriptions and looking at the photos provided. And if I have any uncertainty I always request additional pics, showing other angles, how the back of a jewelry piece is finished, mod shots, etc.

Even though I live in a major U.S. city with lots of shopping options I’d never want to be limited to just buying jewelry in person.

Most of my jewelry also has been bought online....including a couple of pieces from Victor Canera (@Swanky )! I've bought VCA, Temple St. Clair, a Cartier watch, diamond studs and other pieces from Whiteflash, etc. As long as it is a reputable company with a return policy, it's a non-issue. In the case of custom, such as with Victor or Whiteflash, I knew the quality I was getting even though custom pieces cannot be returned.

Hmm, for luxury brands like Cartier, Tiffany, VCA etc. I would only go into the store to try on and buy.

But for relatively inexpensive things ~$100 USD, I'm okay with buying online. This is usually me for Etsy. I usually enjoy buying either small unique pieces (and supporting small businesses) or more basic pieces (in solid gold or a thicker layer of gold plating like gold filled) that are not overpriced by commercial overly marked high street brands like Mejuri, Ana Luisa, Missoma, etc. :P

I buy pretty much everything online these days. The only jewellery pieces I don’t buy online are from my local jeweller. I think I’ve been very lucky in that I have had very few negative experiences and purchasing in this way has given me exposure to many jewellery brands I would not otherwise have been able to access easily here in the UK, such as FoundRae, Temple St. Clair and Monica Rich Kosann.
