PLS HELP ME DECIDE: TO SELL OR NOT TO SELL K28 GRIS MOUETTE FOR A B30

Hello Hermes lovers,

I'm fairly new to Hermes. I bought a K28 Gris Mouette in Dec 2019 but I have not carried it since the day I bought it (preloved but nearly brand new condition). Every time I pull it out of my closet, I finally end up choosing another bag to carry. I thought maybe I should try a Birkin instead. I know I would like a B30 in togo gold or black, but I don't know if it is worth selling my K28 since gris mouette is such a special colour. What would you do? wait and see if I wear it more often or go for a B30? Having both at this moment in life it's not possible as I have other priorities so I highly appreciate your thoughts. Also, I know many countries were in lockdown in 2020 but I live in China and we only had 3 months lockdown and from April 2020 life was back to "normal" so I had many chances to carry my K28 but didn't...

If you having felt like carrying this bag not once in such a long time I don’t see it is giving you any joy, special color or not... Let it go.

You also do not sound that enthusiastic about trying a Birkin which was not your first choice... There really is no obligation to own a Kelly or a Birkin... Try to evaluate what your bag needs are wants are, why you don’t pick up the Kelly, what other bags you pick up instead... Picture yourself with the Birkin: are you a tote girl? Are you happy with hand carry? In what contexts will you use it?
If it is Hermes quality that appeals to you, Hermes makes many many other bags, a few of them also timeless classics.

Thanks for your comment! I don't know why I don't pick up my K28. I suspect it is because size 28 is a bit tiny for my frame and maybe because I'm too afraid to damage it because it looks so perfect on the shelf. I tend to use top handle bags the most. I appreciate the strap of the Kelly that's why it was my first choice but I've never hold a B30 and I think its more casual like my style so id like to try it out I guess before going for other bags. I have an extensive collection and I know what I like, but somehow I cannot decide whether to let my K28 go or keep it. I don't want to regret it.

I have the Bolide 31 (so, slightly bigger than the Kelly 28) in black. I bought her second hand as well. Because of the carefree colour, the fact that she already had a few scratches when I got her, and that the style isn’t as well know to the general public, she has become one of my most used bags. The Bolide also has two top handles and a removable strap and has that incredible Hermes quality. Maybe check one out the next time you have the chance. You can get find them for good prices on the second hand market, as well. Might be a nice alternative to a B or K, while still enjoying all that Hermes has to offer.

Do you not carry your K28 because you're scared to? Or because you prefer other bags you own? Try using the K28 solidly for a week then you will know one way or another. If I'm not sure about letting any items go, I use them all week then decide. If I have already decided to let something go I normally do. Kelly and birkin are very different bags so be sure what you want before buying a birkin.

I actually think the Kelly is more casual than the Birkin so maybe the question comes down to why you don't use it? If it's because you're afraid to scratch it, then that problem may not be solved by getting a Birkin. Maybe you can try going to a few secondhand stores to try on a B30 in person to see how it would look on you and evaluate if you'd carry it more?

That aside, gris mouette is SUCH a beautiful color!! You can't go wrong either way :)

Yes, I don't carry much with me. I live in Shanghai, no pickpockets here. City is super safe. You could leave your mcbook on a terrace to go to the restroom and still be there when you are back lol (I've see this happening btw).

If you haven't used it in 2 years I think you should let it go.
You mention that you'd like a Birkin in Gold or Black so even though Gris Mouette is a 'special colour' maybe it isn't YOUR colour?
If it was a colour you loved and made your heart sing surely you'd want a B in that colour?
Chances are you won't lose money if you re-sell it so my feeling is that that is what you should do.
Dont rush into buying another Hermes bag-until you've tried one that you love and see yourself wearing and loving.
It may be that despite Hermes being such a sought after brand it may not be 'your' brand.
I'll give you an example of this..One of my clients LOVES Chanel bags and I had some highly sought after ones for her to try...While I was waiting for her to arrive I tried on the Chanel bags....I took photographs of myself in them...They just weren't 'me' didn't suit me looked 'funny' on me.
just for fun I sent the photos to a Chanel loving friend and asked "do you think Chanel suits me??' ....the response ??
"LOL!!! No sorry they really dont look right on you".
Try your Kelly again and ask yourself "do I love her? does this bag suit ME? or does the bag wear me rather than I wear the bag?"

Don’t be afraid to carry your Kelly. Don’t give your possessions so much power over you! They are just stuff after all, stuff to be enjoyed. If you truly can’t enjoy it then let it go. Fear is wasted on a Kelly. Save it for when you come face to face with a polar bear and the only thing between you and it is your iPhone on camera mode. Good luck!

Oh I didn't say I want a Birkin in gris mouette because it is a discontinued color lol
I am Chanel person, but I have too many Chanel bags and I love leather craftmanship and sometimes I don't want a logo bag. Grey is my colour but it may be that I'm too afraid of anything happening to it.

hahaha thanks for the advice. I know what you mean and I do use all my other bags (Chanel, Dior, Celine, Lowe, BV,Fendi, Moynat, YSL...) but somehow the K28 looks so perfect that I freeze every time and i pick another bag lol I don't know if its the light colour, or the size (i find it a bit on the smaller side but then it fits all my essentials). I don't know, but i cannot part way with it.
