I think I have some moderately good news to report. So, I asked at Nordy's about the bag. I found out that 1) the bag is
DEFINITELY used. The clerk also said that the missing cell phone holder & key would definitely diminish the value of the bag. The clerk at the second Nordy's said that she had NO clue where I could even buy the missing pieces. Both clerks agreed that there is a very real possibility that the bag is authentic.
One reason for the difference in leather quality seems to be that it may have been from a different part of the cow. The other thing I learned was that it is a slightly different process to make any bag black, versus a natural, or light color. In order to make a handbag dark, especially black, it takes more dye to saturate the leather to that dark of a color. The process to supersaturate the leather leaves it with a more coarse, heavy, thick texture.
I still question that answer to some degree, though because my Chanel and one of my
Coach bags are both black and still very soft.
I had a somewhat better feeling about the current situation, though, after having talked with them.
One thing that DID irritate me, though, was that they had the bag that i just bought at the Rack for $399.00. Granted, I would have had to have paid $40.00 sales tax, but I could have walked away with the same bag, brand new, with NO history.
It's ok,though. Live & Learn.
